A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for NCIC staff to expand their practice with the Specialist Practitioner programme for District Nursing.

During the programme you will gain a systematic understanding of knowledge and critical awareness of current problems and new insights, informed by the forefront of district nursing professional practice. You will also gain an understanding of enquiry and research as well as coaching and teaching using enhanced communication skills. 

As a specialist practitioner you will gain decision making skills in complex and unpredictable situations. Acquire leadership and management skills, prioritisation of individual and team work-load and case-load management. In addition to advanced systematic history, consultation and physical assessment skills and gain a non-medical prescribing qualification.

This course is designed to specifically enhance your existing nursing skills. On successful completion of this course the qualifications you will receive are Postgraduate Diploma for District Nursing with Integrated Independent Prescribing (V300) at Level 7 . As well as the high sought after title of District Nurse Specialist Practitioner.  All of the above will be recognised on the NMC register.

Main duties of the job

It is delivered via a combination of blended learning (including face to face sessions, virtual sessions and directed study) and work-based learning, supported by a Practice Assessor and Practice Supervisor as per the Nursing and Midwifery Council (2018) Standards for Student Supervision and Assessment). The programme utilises an integrated theory and practice approach that will develop skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary for safe and effective specialist practice. 

NCIC works in partnership with  the University of Central Lancashire who have  a strong reputation for its District Nurse training. You will work with skilled academics who have held senior roles in District Nursing.

Candidate will be expected to travel to Uclan to receive the academic element of their course 

Course length 54 weeks.  

Leading and Advancing District Nursing (40 credits)

PgD University Award Independent/Supplementary Prescribing for Nurses and Midwives (V300) or Negotiated Learning to be agreed prior to the Course (40 credits)

Consultation and Physical Examination: Health Assessment Skills for Community Specialist Practitioners (20 credits)

Contemporary leadership and management of change for Community Specialist Practitioner's (20 credits)

On 28 November 2020, the new Disclosure and Barring Service filtering rules will come into effect.

The changes mean that:                  

  • youth cautions, reprimands and final warnings will no longer be subject to automatic disclosure

Please note the cost of the DBS check is increasing from 2nd December and the new cost will be

Standard DBS check £21.50, Enhanced DBS check £49.50 + any admin costs.

Standard Check: £18 + Administration cost of £3.85 = £21.85. Deducted at £6.85 from 1st month salary and £5 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Enhanced Check: £38 + administration cost of £3.90 = £41.90. Deducted at £11.90 from 1st month salary and £10 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Qualifications

  • BSc or equivalent in clinical nursing
