We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Occupational Therapist to join our Integrated Community Stroke Therapy Team, based at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary Hospital. The post involves working across both inpatient and community settings, across our locality. 

Our Stroke Therapy Team operates within a culture of a strong, supportive multi-disciplinary team which consists of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists as well as Assistant Practitioners. We promote an inter-disciplinary approach, working collaboratively to support patients with choosing, setting and working towards meeting goals, helping to enable positive rehabilitation outcomes and facilitate timely discharge from hospital. 

Our Stroke Therapy Team is committed to facilitating an environment which promotes professional development and engagement with research opportunities. This both in house and in collaboration with local universities. There is encouragement given to engage with regular clinical and managerial supervision, to help promote personal professional development and an interdisciplinary approach is taken with the facilitation of clinical supervision for our Assistant Practitioners. 

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

The successful candidate will be required to manage a complex clinical caseload, providing specialised assessments and rehabilitation for patients following a Stroke. There is an expectation that the post holder will be able to use assessment skills to help inform and manage appropriate discharge plans both within inpatient and community settings.  

They will have an ability to promote an inter-disciplinary approach to goal setting, whilst maintaining a strong Occupational therapy clinical focus. The candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with the patient, families and other MDT professionals, to help inform discharge and MDT planning.  

To be able to delegate work appropriately to Therapy Assistants and Assistant Practitioners to work towards these both in supervised and semi-supervised environments.  

To be able to facilitate training for patients, their carers and other members of the MDT, promoting meaningful engagement with appropriate therapy exercises, Activities of Daily Living and Moving and Handling requirements.  

To support the Stroke therapy team in delivering specialised therapy services. 

To demonstrate continued engagement with Continuing Professional Development activities, in line with HCPC guidelines. 

To provide a compassionate, inclusive and respectful therapy service to all patients and their families.

Gweithio i'n sefydliad

We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre. 

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. 

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. 

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Qualifications

Meini prawf hanfodol
  • Health and Care Professions Council registered Occupational Therapist.
  • Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy approved by the College of OT, UK
  • Post graduate training or experience to post graduate diploma level or equivalent.

  • Membership of the British Association of Occupational Therapists.
  • Practice placement educator accreditation

Experience

  • Relevant post registration experience as an OT to achieve knowledge and skills applicable to this post.

  • Experience as a supervisor of OT (Band 5) and/or OT support staff and/or OT students.
  • Experience of research or audit.
