Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Occupational Therapist to join our Integrated Community Stroke Therapy Team, based at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary Hospital. The post involves working across both inpatient and community settings, across our locality.

Our Stroke Therapy Team operates within a culture of a strong, supportive multi-disciplinary team which consists of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists as well as Assistant Practitioners. We promote an inter-disciplinary approach, working collaboratively to support patients with choosing, setting and working towards meeting goals, helping to enable positive rehabilitation outcomes and facilitate timely discharge from hospital.

Our Stroke Therapy Team is committed to facilitating an environment which promotes professional development and engagement with research opportunities. This both in house and in collaboration with local universities. There is encouragement given to engage with regular clinical and managerial supervision, to help promote personal professional development and an interdisciplinary approach is taken with the facilitation of clinical supervision for our Assistant Practitioners.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be required to manage a complex clinical caseload, providing specialised assessments and rehabilitation for patients following a Stroke. There is an expectation that the post holder will be able to use assessment skills to help inform and manage appropriate discharge plans both within inpatient and community settings.

They will have an ability to promote an inter-disciplinary approach to goal setting, whilst maintaining a strong Occupational therapy clinical focus. The candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with the patient, families and other MDT professionals, to help inform discharge and MDT planning.

To be able to delegate work appropriately to Therapy Assistants and Assistant Practitioners to work towards these both in supervised and semi-supervised environments.

To be able to facilitate training for patients, their carers and other members of the MDT, promoting meaningful engagement with appropriate therapy exercises, Activities of Daily Living and Moving and Handling requirements.

To support the Stroke therapy team in delivering specialised therapy services.

To demonstrate continued engagement with Continuing Professional Development activities, in line with HCPC guidelines.

To provide a compassionate, inclusive and respectful therapy service to all patients and their families.
