Job overview

  • To demonstrate sound theoretical knowledge of the speech
     and language therapy process and skills necessary for the
     management of a range of speech, language and
     communication (SLC) difficulties.
  •  To be responsible for the management of a caseload of
     children with a variety of SLC difficulties, which may include
     occasional complex cases; all cases will be overseen by a
     senior Speech and Language Therapist (SLT).
  • To participate in the management (assessment, treatment,
     general management and discharge planning) of children
     referred to the service.
  • To provide support, guidance and information to parents and
    professionals regarding speech, language and communication

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity to gain experience in a Paediatric Community Speech and Language Team . You will be based in the University City of Lancaster working for University Hospitals Morecambe Bay. Geographically 60 minutes away from bigger city's such as Liverpool and Manchester and 30 minutes away from the Lake District. 

The Team  work in clinics, schools and in the child home to provide Speech and Language Therapy for children and Young People age  0-19 years. Therapist are part of a Integrated Team of Nurses and Therapists who work together to improve the outcomes for Children.

The Team have good  support , regular clinical supervision and access to external  training opportunities. 

During Covid the team have been innovative and resilient , embracing new technology ,enabling the service to continue  using Tele-practice to provide a virtual programs and groups for children.

Anyone newly appointed to the Trust will be subject to the completion of a satisfactory 6 month probationary period (this includes bank staff). This will give the new staff member an opportunity to become familiar with the role and working environment.

Essential criteria
  • Honours Degree or equivalent in Speech and Language Therapy
  • Registered with HCPC
Desirable criteria
  • Registered member of RCSLT

Knowledge/skills

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of general clinical issues including information governance, safeguarding
  • Ability to work independently as an autonomous practitioner, flexible and good time management
  • Interpersonal skills and team player
  • Ability to travel

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Paediatric experience
  • Experience of undertaking initial assessments and in using a range of assessment tools
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of both group and individual therapy treatment
  • Experience of EHCPs and SEND
