Job overview

Ward 2 have an exciting opportunity to recruit 2 x clinical band 6 Registered nurses into the team.

Ward 2 is a 27 bedded general medical ward that deals with 

Assess, plan, deliver and evaluate nursing care, whilst operating as a member of the multi-disciplinary team. Contribute as requested by the Ward Sister to the smooth running of the unit. Take charge of the Ward in the absence of the Ward Sister, and allocate work to other staff as appropriate.

Main duties of the job

  • Manage and provide all aspects of patient care.
  • Act in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct (NMC), and other professional guidelines. Be personally accountable for your professional practice, judgement and conduct.
  • Take history as requested, assess, plan and deliver individualised care within the policy / protocol frameworks.
  • Carry out relevant investigations / procedures, assessing / interpreting abnormal results and other patient conditions as required and taking appropriate action to ensure safety of patient according to the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines.
  • Ensure privacy, dignity and confidentiality are maintained at all times when providing patient care.
  • Communicate with empathy, reassurance and understanding.
  • Discuss information about patients’ medical condition, allowing them to voice any questions and concerns, and always acting in their best interests.
  • Advise the patient of health promotion, giving effective advice, taking into account patient’s diverse needs.
  • Check blood results, and inform relevant consultant, nurse care team and other services as required of any abnormalities.
  • Assist other nurses in the ward team as necessary.
  • Comply with infection prevention and control procedures at all times.
  • Take personal responsibility for putting the person receiving care first, and to challenge poor care/practise, doing so as soon as any shortcomings are seen.

Disclosure and Barring Service:

On 28 November 2020, the new Disclosure and Barring Service filtering rules will come into effect.

The changes mean that:               

  • youth cautions, reprimands and final warnings will no longer be subject to automatic disclosure
  • the multiple conviction rule has been removed, meaning that if an individual has more than one conviction, regardless of offence type or time passed, each conviction will be considered against the remaining rules individually, rather than being automatically disclosed.

Please note the cost of the DBS check is increasing from 2nd December and the new cost will be

Standard DBS check £21.50, Enhanced DBS check £49.50 + any admin costs.

The cost of the DBS must be met by the successful candidate(s) through salary deduction. DBS charges are as follows if applicable to the post:

 

Standard Check: £18 + Administration cost of £3.85 = £21.85. Deducted at £6.85 from 1st month salary and £5 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Enhanced Check: £38 + administration cost of £3.90 = £41.90. Deducted at £11.90 from 1st month salary and £10 deducted from salary over following 3 months.
