Job overview

This role will enable a core/F3 equivalent level doctor to gain experience as part of our (specialty) team at Chesterfield Royal Hospital.  

This is a 4-month, fixed term post to provide rota cover for a Trainee vacancy within the department and commences from 01 April 2026 until the 04 August 2026. The successful candidate must be able to start from April 2026.

The post has been specifically designed for training level medics who would like to gain more specialty experience and consolidate their knowledge, skills and confidence prior to moving on to the next stage of their career.

You will work and train in a number of areas across Obstetrics and Gynaecology, including wards, outpatients and theatres. 

Some aspects of the role can be bespoke to the individual needs of the post-holder and tailored to take into account previous relevant experience, or achievement of requirements for application to specialty training 

There will be the opportunity to participate in teaching, audit, guideline development and service improvement projects. 

We will also provide support to help you develop a portfolio in line with Royal College recommendations for those who want to evidence their role and training in this way.

A clinical supervisor will be allocated and will provide support for the duration of the placement. 

The minimum skill requirement, including 2 years of post-graduate experience, is outlined on the attached Person Specification.

The city of Sheffield is only 9 miles away and hosts two universities, one with a medical and dental school.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBChB or equivalent.
  • GMC registered with license to practise.
Desirable criteria
  • ALS, ATLS or APLS provider certification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of 2 years post-graduate clinical experience (completion of Foundation competencies or equivalent).
  • 6 months NHS experience
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching delivery experience (any modality) to UG medical students.
  • Evidence of completing audit / quality improvement project and having implanted change to practice

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Good understanding of the secondary care environment
