Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Pharmacy Technician and Support Staff Education & Training team.
Based at Royal Derby Hospital, the successful applicant will be at the forefront of the management and provision of education, training and development for our Pharmacy Technician and Support staff groups, to ensure we maintain the high standard required to sustain and grow a stable, confident workforce, equipped with the knowledge, skills and behaviours to deliver current services, whilst developing talent for the future.
You will be a highly driven and competent Pharmacy Technician with considerable dispensing and accuracy checking experience, within a hospital setting, including demonstrable evidence of training and supporting staff.
Hours will be worked Thursday and Friday.
Main duties of the job
Responsible for the day to day management of the UHDB Pharmacy Technician & Support staff training team.
Responsible for the day to day management and delivery of dispensary based education & training of Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technicians, qualified Pharmacy technicians and support staff.
Support the Lead Pharmacy Technician to develop and manage training plans and programmes to ensure that they meet the relevant standards, requirements and legislation both locally and nationally.
To support the transformation and forward plans of the Pharmacy business unit by identifying, training and supporting present and future extended roles for Pharmacy technicians and support staff.

Education, Training, Qualifications and CPD Requirements
Essential criteria
- Registered Pharmacy Technician (GPhC)
- Management qualification
- Approved final accuracy checker
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
Desirable criteria
- Training qualification e.g. City and Guilds stage 1 teaching certificate
- Current Educational Supervisor experience
- HEE Core Skills for Pharmacy Clinical Educational Supervisors certificate
Experience & Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Demonstrable knowledge of current hospital pharmacy practice, including dispensing Pharmacy
- To be able to demonstrate experience of training pharmacy staff
- Recognised and practising as an accuracy checker
- Demonstrable pharmacy experience including experience in dispensing
- Computer literate with detailed functional knowledge of word, excel and pharmacy computer system
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge and understanding of Pre-Registration Trainee
- Experience of supervising staff and carrying out appraisals
- Demonstrable knowledge on coaching/mentoring
Skills and Ability
Essential criteria
- Demonstrable knowledge on producing accurate written work to a high standard
