Senior Pharmacy Support Assistant - Homecare

Band 3.

Job overview

To support the Homecare Lead and Senior Technicians in the day-to-day delivery of services.

To plan own tasks and to support workload across Homecare services.

To support in the development of Homecare procedures.

To manage at least one Homecare provider statement of account (ordering, invoicing, and management of credits) –supervisor contactable for advice but post holder is responsible for proactive monitoring.

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

Main duties of the job

To provide support to the Homecare Lead & Senior Technicians in the development and maintenance of systems supporting Homecare.

Assist in the development of Homecare Services.

To support implementation of recommendations for commissioned reports and Royal Pharmaceutical Society standards.

To manage prescription and invoice processing in line with procedures.

To raise purchase orders for prescriptions prior to sending to providers

To use homecare providers portals for prescriptions, finance (where applicable) and queries.

To manage and maintain monthly statements from each homecare provider

To support in reporting and completing databases

To support auditing, complaints, and incident management.

To ensure all funding requirements are adhered to.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

·       To provide support to the Homecare Lead and Senior Pharmacy Technicians in development and maintenance of systems supporting Homecare.

·       Assist in the strategic development of Homecare services.

·       Process Homecare prescriptions in a timely manner.

·       Process Homecare invoices in a timely manner

·       To carry out duties according to standard operating procedures.

·       To support training of routine procedures to new staff and support competency sign off.

·       To support the Homecare Lead/Senior Technicians in any Quality Improvement Projects (QI Projects).

·       To follow safe and efficient systems of work in accordance with relevant legislation e.g., Medicines Act, Control of Substances Hazardous to Health and Standard Operating Procedures and Wholesaler Dealers Licence.

·       To use the pharmacy computer system efficiently and to maximum benefit.

·       To attend such study days and updating courses when necessary.

·       To raise purchase orders for prescriptions using the PSO module prior to sending to providers.

·       To use Homecare providers portals for prescriptions, finance (if applicable) and queries.

·       Review the received invoices that have not been processed and investigate.

·       Deal with queries received into the generic email box or over the telephone and escalating to the Pharmacy Technicians when necessary.

·       To support in reporting and completing databases

·       Maintain any homecare documentation for therapies which require monitoring.

·       Support any reporting requirements.

·       Support service review meetings.

·       Management and maintenance of the homecare companies’ statement of accounts, with support where needed

·       Review the received invoices that have not been processed and investigate.

·       To carry out duties according to standard operating procedures.

·       To support training of routine procedures to new staff and support competency sign off.

·       To support the Homecare Lead/Senior Technicians in any Quality Improvement Projects (QI Projects).

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • 5 GCSEs grade C/4 or above in English, Maths and 3 others or equivalent demonstrable experience.
  • NVQ level 2 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent demonstrable experience.
Desirable criteria
  • Equivalent to GCSE or above in IT related subject
  • NVQ level 2 in Pharmacy Services

Aptitude and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Good communication skills, written and verbal, with ability to demonstrate fluency, clarity and effectiveness at all levels.
  • Ability to work alone or as part of a team
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrable experience with acting as a team leader.
  • An interest in developing services.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable experience of using a variety of IT sources.
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrable experience in a medical or health related environment
  • Good proven understanding of Good Distribution Practises.
