Job overview
The Pre-Treatment CT Radiographer plays a key role in the radiotherapy pathway by acquiring high-quality planning CT scans used in the development of individualised radiotherapy treatment plans. This role ensures the accuracy and safety of radiation therapy by supporting image acquisition, patient positioning, immobilisation, and data transfer for treatment planning.
We are looking for a highly experienced and motivated knowledgeable HCPC registered Therapeutic Radiographer who is looking for an opportunity to join our Radiotherapy Pre-treatment team at Plymouth Oncology Centre
Applicants should have experience in working to a high level of competence within pre-treatment and possess excellent communication and organisational skills to manage a team of staff deliver a high standard of care and empathy.
***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be an experienced and highly organised registered Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Therapeutic Radiographer who will be responsible for providing and managing all aspects of the Pre-treatment imaging services ensuring timely and high quality best practice patient care.
The post holder will confidently and professionally provide expert advice and support in all aspects of Pre-treatment imaging services.
The post holder will be responsible for ensuring a high quality and consistent approach to undertaking and developing pre- treatment imaging services in conjunction with other departmental leads.
The post holder will be experienced in CT planning procedures and be able to evaluate, develop and undertake all aspects of CT work including advanced techniques and new working practice.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Be recognized as a clinical expert in all aspects of CT imaging maintaining an expert knowledge of CT procedures, practices and legislation.
- Be recognized as an expert practitioner utilize professional expertise and judgement to problem solve routine and non-routine scenarios throughout the Pre-treatment pathway.
- Undertake and lead on aspects of CT procedures and development.
- Undertake cannulation and contrast delivery.
- Undertake palliative planning via eclipse.
- Work collaboratively with all departmental Leads to ensure seamless integration of CT imaging and planning in the patient pathway and ensure provision of a safe, timely and high quality service for all service users.
- Possess a comprehensive understanding of national legislation, including the Ionising Radiations Regulations (IRR) and the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations (IRMER), as they apply to ionising radiation exposure. Act as the Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS) and IRMER Lead for the CT area, with responsibility for addressing and managing all radiation safety queries and ensuring compliance with relevant statutory requirements.
8. Ensure the CT scanner is operated safely and accurately for both patients and staff by performing all required machine checks, adhering to safety protocols, and promptly reporting any variances or faults in accordance with departmental procedures
- Ensure that all staff rotating through the CT area have read and understood the Local Rules, work instructions, and procedures relevant to CT. Take responsibility for ensuring that all clinical training deadlines are met, and identify and address the training needs of all staff assigned to the CT area.
- Demonstrate the ability to resolve highly complex set up/ positioning issues with problem solving skills and effective autonomous decision-making.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- • DCR (T) or BSc (Hons) or MSc in Radiotherapy
- • HCPC Registration.
- • Post graduate qualification in related area or evidence of post graduate level learning.
Desirable criteria
- • Independent prescribing qualification or demonstrable experience
- • Proven evidence of / qualification in project management.
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- • Highly specialised level of proven knowledge and demonstrable clinical experience of CT procedures, Treatment delivery, Radiotherapy equipment, cancer pathology and disease patterns
- • Proven evidence of career progression demonstrating both breadth and depth of knowledge supported by appropriate CPD/Qualifications
- • Demonstrable experience in managing people successfully.
Desirable criteria
- • Proven eclipse planning knowledge/ demonstrable experience
- • Demonstrable experience of undertaking clinical audit.
Aptitude and Abilities
Essential criteria
- • Demonstrable Management and organisational skills to enable prioritisation of workload and meet deadlines.
- • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- • Ability to prioritise, manage and organise individual and team workload and training needs. Both accommodating planned and unpredictable work patterns.
