Job overview
We are seeking a Consultant Orthodontist to join our team at Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust.
Main duties of the job
As a Consultant Orthodontist, you will be part of an established, multidisciplinary team, and you will be involved with the care of adult and child patients with severe and complex malocclusions. You will be expected to undertake the orthodontic care of patients requiring Orthognathic Surgery, Orthodontic/ Restorative treatment, dento- alveolar surgery, and complex Orthodontic treatment. Cases requiring multi-disciplinary care are seen with colleagues in the Maxillofacial & Restorative Dentistry specialties. You will be expected to provide advice for General Dental Practitioners, General Medical Practitioners, to be involved with local and regional professional networks, and participate in relevant local, regional and national audit and quality assurance processes. This will include the responsibility for and arrangement of communication and liaison with all other medical and service departments within the Trust as well as other Trusts.

This is an opportunity to join the well-established, progressive department of Orthodontics at Torbay Hospital. The successful applicant(s) will join a highly motivated, dynamic team, responsible for the management and treatment of orthodontic patients with the emphasis on multidisciplinary care.
The appointee(s) will form part of a long-standing team delivering a comprehensive Hospital Orthodontic Service. The team are actively engaged in future service development, as well as active participation in the teaching and training of specialty trainees, middle grade doctors, and junior members of staff. There is a highly skilled nursing team offering excellent clinical support. Quality improvement projects are encouraged, as well as continuous professional development.
The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery department forms a clinical directorate together with ENT, Restorative Dentistry and Orthodontics and Plastic Surgery (externally provided). The department works closely with the ENT department particularly in the management of head and neck cancer. Office accommodation and secretarial services are provided in a dedicated Department for Head and Neck.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
This new consultant post is based on appointment of 6 PAs. A job plan is provided for illustrative purposes, but we appreciate that the successful applicant may wish to negotiate a change in timetable. The team would be happy to discuss this part time commitment.

Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Full GDC Registration (with licence to practice). CCsT Specialist Registration in Orthodontics or equivalent
- Speciality fellowship in Orthodontics, or within 6 months of ISFE or equivalent before commencement of post
Desirable criteria
- Distinctions, scholarships, prizes. Other degrees, e.g. BSc, MSc, MD.
- At least three years in Higher Training in relevant specialty.
