Breast Unit Assistant Practitioner in Mammography

The Breast Unit has a vacancy for an Assistant Practitioner in Mammography to join our team.  For candidates who do not currently hold a Mammography qualification, training may be considered.  Under these circumstances salary will be paid at a lower rate to reflect the training status and will remain until successful completion of qualification and preceptorship.

Main duties of the job

This post holder will perform mammography working in both the Symptomatic Breast service and the National Breast Screening Programme.   They will be expected to independently travel to and work across all sites, including in the community to deliver the service as required.  

Duties are varied and include but are not limited to; deliver a high standard of patient care, deliver high standards of mammography under supervision of a radiographer and participate in self assessment of image quality, work within equipment QA and work on mobiles supporting the Radiographers to ensure a safe working environment for both staff and patients.

The Breast Unit is a busy department working within both the National Breast Screening service and a Symptomatic Breast service. The ability to work both in a team and independently, and to communicate in a wide variety of settings, is essential.

Essential criteria
  • Foundation degree in science (healthcare practice)
  • NVQ level 3 in Health Care or Equivalent
  • Higher Education Certificate in Mammography
  • GCSE grade A-C in Maths and English or equivalent level 2 English and Maths Functional Skills
Desirable criteria
  • IT Qualification
  • Customer Service Qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable experience in a Breast Unit
Desirable criteria
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience working in a healthcare environment
  • Customer Service Experience
