Job overview

This post holder will be able to lead the strategy to improve wound management across Sussex, to maximize promote and support excellent quality of wound care across the primary care and community services including care homes, practices, community nurses and Tissue Viability Colleagues.

The post-holder will be leading wound product optimization, to ensure the wound management budget is optimally managed, including product costs, evidence, practical experience, quality, and waste, working with other healthcare professionals involved in wound management across Sussex.

This post will be employed and hosted by Sussex Community Foundation Trust but the successful candidate will be working within the Sussex ICB medicines optimisation team to deliver the duties of the job.

This role is based at Sackville House, Lewes, but the base is negotiable as the position covered Sussex.

 

Main duties of the job

  • To have overall responsibility for the management of all wound management related projects in Sussex Integrated Care Board (ICB)
  • To be responsible for monitoring of ONPOS and FP10 prescribing of wound management products and investigating areas of unexplained expenditure.
  • Liaise with the Hospital and Primary care & Community services, to ensure these organisations respect the Sussex Health & Care Partnership Wound Management Formulary, including their use of appropriate Formulary processes if they wish to request additions to the Formulary
  • Lead the provision of wound management education for up-skilling primary care clinicians to manage, prescribe and review prescribing of wound care products for their patients.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Further details of the role: 

  • To be a key member of the Sussex Wound Formulary Group, lead on a share of new product and chapter reviews, and to provide evidence and cost effectiveness evaluation for work done by other teams as part of the consultation process. These need to be of a quality suitable for presentation to the Sussex Health & Care Partnership Area Prescribing Committee,
  • To mentor and support others preparing wound management papers for the Area Prescribing Committee
  • To work alongside the Lead Medicines Optimisation Pharmacy technician for wound care in the ICB providing clinical expertise and leadership.
  • Matrix management responsibility of staff employed by the ICB involved in wound care
  • Participate in relevant internal and external working groups/projects, services and initiatives to provide, information and analytical advice and expertise
  • Requirement to travel to sites across Sussex to meet stakeholders

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered nurse
  • Extensive knowledge of Tissue Viability acquired through post graduate diploma or equivalent experience or training plus further specialist knowledge or experience to master’s level equivalent.
  • Ability to make decisions autonomously, when required, on difficult issues, working to tight and often changing timescales
  • Evidence of post qualifying and continuing professional development
  • Must have an understanding of the background to and aims of current healthcare policy and appreciate the implications of this on engagement
  • Should have an appreciation of the relationship between the Department of Health, the Strategic Health Authority and individual provider and comm
  • Nursing Degree
Desirable criteria
  • Post graduate qualification (Masters) in Tissue Viability

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previously responsible for a budget, involved in budget setting and working knowledge of financial processes
  • Needs to have a thorough understanding of and commitment to equality of opportunity and good working relationships both in terms of day-to-day working practices, but also in relation to management systems for Sussex.
  • Experience of identifying and interpreting National policy. Experience of researching best practice (globally, private and public sector), interpreting its relevance and processes/ practices which could be implemented successfully to achieve system reform (advising on policy implementation)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office with intermediate keyboard skills.
  • Demonstrated capability to plan over short, medium and long- term timeframes and adjust plans and resource requirements accordingly
  • Must be able to prioritise own work effectively and be able to direct activities of others. Experience of managing and motivating a team and reviewing performance of the individuals.
Desirable criteria
  • Comprehensive experience of project principles techniques and tools such as Prince 2 and Managing Successful Projects
