Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Band 6 Occupational Therapist,  interested in expanding their clinical skills and experience, to  work within South Essex Community Mental Health provision for adults in  the Brentwood locality.

You will be working as part of a small, friendly and skilful Occupational therapy team to provide focused Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention to clients  through 1:1 and group work.

The OT team sits within the wider multi-disciplinary team providing holistic support for clients with complex and enduring mental health needs requiring secondary level mental health care . 

Main duties of the job

Working within this busy team environment you will have the opportunity to develop a wide range of clinical skills; including but not limited to undertaking  OT assessments,  care planning, delivering interventions -  through group and individual sessions, and the supervision and appraisal of junior staff. 

The post holder will  have access to professional supervision and leadership within the team.

They will be supported to  access a range of  relevant development and training opportunities to enhance their practise.

More details to be found in the attached job description, however in summary;  the post holder will be part of the Occupational Therapy team and wider Community Mental Health Team.  They will deliver Occupational Therapy focused assessment, treatment and interventions to community dwelling adults within Brentwood locality who are in receipt of care from  secondary mental health services.

Education/ Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy
  • Registered with HCPC
  • Completion of Preceptorship period and evidence of continuing professional and personal development.
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of post qualification study

Additional Qualities

Essential criteria
  • Car driver with access to a vehicle for work purposes – ability to travel across sites and boundaries to attend meetings etc

Skills/Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience as a qualified occupational therapist in mental health within the NHS
  • Literate in IT/computer skills
  • Experience in of working closely and developing relationships with medical nursing social care tertiary providers and clinical staff
  • Ability to produce clear, coherent and accurate clinical reports including ability to complete required electronic data systems for a variety of audience
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of providing professional support/supervision and motivation of staff
  • Fieldwork educator
