JOB SUMMARY

 

•           Works as part of a multidisciplinary team assisting the Senior Chief and Principal Cardiac Physiologists to ensure the provision of high quality cardiac services and assisting with the day to day supervision of staff

•           Specialist in Echocardiography.

•           Takes responsibility for medical staff training in Echocardiography.

•           Provide managerial support to the Principal Cardiac Physiologist.

•           Takes responsibility for junior staff in the absence of senior staff.

•           Provides clinical expertise in a broad range of investigations/procedures

•           Takes an active role in the education, training and development of all junior staff, working closely with the training lead. Ensures training continues in absence of training lead.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES

  •  Highly skilled communicator.
  • Management & supervision of junior staff.
  • Teaching staff of all levels, including consultants.
  • Very high level of clinical skills and knowledge.

Communication

  • Ensures effective communication is maintained within the multidisciplinary team
  • Effective communication with patients and service users.
  • Communicates and discusses highly technical diagnostic information and echocardiographic findings with Senior members of staff including consultant as appropriate

Analytical and Planning

 

  • Performs extensive range of cardiac investigations and procedures including echocardiography and stress echocardiography with interpretation and comprehensive report writing.
  • Communicates and discusses highly technical diagnostic information and echocardiographic findings with Senior members of staff including consultant as appropriate.

 Staff Management

 

·         Provide managerial support to the Principal Cardiac Physiologist

  • Management & supervision of junior staff.
  • Provide mentorship to the clinicians
  • Assist in training and supervision of junior staff, medics and other healthcare workers, working closely with the head of Training and development to ensure continuity of training.
  • Identifies training needs for self and junior members of staff
  • Performs assessments as a work based assessor for students undertaking the Clinical Physiology Degree

Experience

Essential criteria
  • BSc in Clinical Physiology (Or equivalent)
  • RCCP Registration
  • Professional Body Exams (Master’s Degree Equivalent -BSE Accreditation)
Desirable criteria
  • BSE supervisor/ log book Assessor/marker

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience as a Cardiac Physiologist in all areas of Cardiac Physiology, with further experience as specialist echocardiographer
  • Experience of training staff in echocardiograph
Desirable criteria
  • ALS Qualification
