Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.

Within Mid and South Essex there are 149 GP practices, operating from over 200 sites, forming 27 Primary Care Networks and one Ambulance Trust. There are also three main community and mental health service providers who work together through a community collaborative.

We collaborate with other valuable partners, including three Healthwatch organisations, nine voluntary and community sector organisations and three top tier local authorities, with seven district, borough and city councils, as well as our local universities.

 

Job overview

The Department of Anaesthetics provides anaesthetics, pain services, pre-operative preparation and emergency services to Broomfield Hospital as part of the Mid and South Essex Foundation Trust.

The Department is part of the Division of Anaesthetics and Theatres and has one Clinical Director and Trust-wide leads in Pre Assessment and Pain. Lists also occur at the Braintree Community Hospital which is a standalone elective, Orthopaedic site.

Main duties of the job

The Department of Anaesthetics provides anaesthetics, pain services, pre-operative preparation and emergency services to Broomfield Hospital as part of the Mid and South Essex Foundation Trust. The Department is part of the Division of Anaesthetics and Theatres and has one Clinical Director and Trust-wide leads in Pre Assessment and Pain. Lists also occur at the Braintree Community Hospital which is a standalone elective, Orthopaedic site.

There is a strong history of excellence in anaesthetic education at Broomfield and we have links to the School of Medicine at the nearby Anglia Ruskin University including Honorary Senior Lecturers. There are national courses organised under the auspices of ARU by our consultants.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • GMC registered
Desirable criteria
  • FRCA or equivalent

Professional Experience

Essential criteria
  • At least 4 years post graduate ST experience
  • Minimum of 2 years experince of obstetrics anaesthesia
  • Demonstrable experience in an anaesthetic training post recognised by Royal College of Anaesthetists for training and must hold the Basic level Training certificate or equivalent.
  • NHS Experience
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of Ultrasound guided Regional anaesthetisia

Audit and clinical Goverance

Essential criteria
  • An understanding of the principles of Clinical Goverance and Understanding the principles of evidence based Audit

Communication

Essential criteria
  • The ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, patients and relatives. Competent in relevant IT packages.
