Job overview
To support patients during radiology examinations, and to assist the other imaging
assistants with preparing patients and carrying out these examinations. To act as a mentor and role model to junior RDAs; being a point of contact for advice and guidance. To be proactive in your work assisting radiology staff with the view that the patient’s needs come first. To provide a proficient cannulation service and mentor junior RDAs who are training in this area. Appropriate training in cannulation will be provided.
Main duties of the job
- · To check stock levels as part of the departmental weekly stock checks
· To communicate with a broad range of patients prior to examination. This may include patients whose first language is not English or those who have difficulty understanding due to their medical condition
· To be able to deal with many, often conflicting, demands on attention at the same time, while remaining focused on current task
· To understand and comply with legislative obligation, including Data Protection Act, Health and Safety at Work Act, COSHH, local radiation rules, departmental and Trust policies
· To carry out other duties as requested by any member of the senior management team
· To undergo an annual performance appraisal and review, whereby future objectives are identified and actioned
· To present a professional front at all times while on duty and be an ambassador for the profession and the department
· Coordinate the arrival and departure of patients to and from the relevant departments
· To assist in the manual handling of patients moving to and from scanning areas, in line with trust manual handling policies
· Admissions and discharges for injection list
· Cannulation where required
· To train and mentor junior staff

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Please see the attached job description for more information. This is primarily a rotational role through MRI, CT and Ultrasound but Nuclear Medicine may also be required. To proactively support in stock checking and raising low stock levels as a concern to the superintendents of the areas.
