Job overview
We are delighted to offer availability a role as a band 5 Podiatrist working within our Podiatry Team in South Essex. The service covers from the Basildon area in South Essex to the borders of Southend on Sea and Shoeburyness. The service provides a wholistic approach to patient care including Wound Care, Home Visits, Biomechanics, Nail Surgery and is part of the Multidisciplinary Foot Team in the Acute Trust co supported by the Podiatric Surgery Team Essex at Essex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
Your clinical work would be at a variety of clinics. A car driver is therefore essential for this role. Business mileage is remunerated and staff may apply for a lease / salary sacrifice car scheme.
All employees are required to undertake mandatory training, supervision and yearly appraisals including forming an individual development program. The service arranges regular educational speakers as part of its regular service meetings. Staff may apply for specific study leave and training courses.
This post would provide an ideal opportunity to develop your clinical skills and gain experience in the above specialist areas as part of a rotational program. A mentor will be provided to help support you through your developmental and preceptorship program as well as daily support from senior clinicians as part of a two chair clinic arrangement.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will undertake as part of the Podiatry team; new patient assessment clinics, routine clinics, ulcer clinics and nail surgery with opportunities to shadow specialist musculoskeletal podiatrists and specialist diabetes podiatrists in the multidisciplinary diabetic foot service.
You will need to be able to work independently and as part of a team and have excellent clinical and communication skills, these skills are essential as you will be providing a quality service to patients in a variety of clinical settings.
The post holder will be required to travel across all areas of South Essex.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To demonstrate highly developed skills of reasoning and persuasion when communicating with patients, relatives and carers where there are barriers to understanding, effectively adapting communication techniques according to the needs of the individual.
To work in close collaboration with the specialist multidisciplinary diabetic foot team, vascular team and secondary care consultants and professionals.
To provide specialised advice to community based colleagues working within other clinical areas and primary care.
To be responsible for maintaining accurate and appropriate standards of documentation.
To act professionally in relation to customer care and contribute to investigations/responses to any complaints in line with Trust policy.
To demonstrate and apply a sound understanding of clinical governance and risk management.
To participate and comment on proposed service improvements and transformation within the department.
To participate in surveys, undertake audits, and research around podiatry care.
Participate in and encourage sharing of best practice and knowledge.

To participate in delivering training and education to both patients, students and other health professionals. To supervise and monitor students on placement and apprentices.

Act as an effective role model to all healthcare professionals and as an expert resource on the management of foot health.
Ensure safeguarding and mental capacity issues are recognised and dealt with appropriately.
To have knowledge and comply with Trust Policies and Procedures.
To have an excellent working knowledge of IT skills.
To input data and information accurately and completely using the latest versions of policies and procedures in manual and electronic systems.
To ensure the necessary precautions are adhered to when transferring information, only disclosing patient identifiable information in line with Caldicott and the Data Protection.
To work within health and safety requirements and local guidelines.
Maintain competency and knowledge and utilise risk management to maintain safe practice.
To report adverse incidents in line with Trust policy.
To keep up to date with all mandatory training, be responsible for undertaking own CPD and completing the preceptorship programme.
To have an excellent working knowledge of IT skills.
