Job overview

We are seeking a forward-thinking and experienced Band 7 Dosimetrist to join the Radiotherapy team at Southend Hospital, part of the Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of modern cancer care, including Online Adaptive Radiotherapy.

We also offer:

·         Continuing professional development opportunities

·         A culture that values innovation and collaboration

You will be a key member of the Radiotherapy Physics team, working closely with clinical oncologists, radiographers, and clinical scientists to develop and implement advanced radiotherapy treatment plans. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the planning and checking of innovative treatment techniques including IMRT, VMAT, IGRT, SABR and oART.

We are in the process of replacing Monaco with Eclipse, so experience with Eclipse and Aria would be an advantage

Main duties of the job

   The successful applicant will:

·       Contribute to the development of new techniques in collaboration with other staff groups and take an active role in introducing new equipment and clinical techniques.

·         Advise clinical staff on the effects of various treatment plan options on patient dose distributions.

·         The post holder will play a lead role in delivering routine radiotherapy physics services, making decisions related to advanced and complex planning, including adaptive radiotherapy.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

·         To prepare and check radiotherapy treatment plans and all associated calculations.

·         To maintain complete records of all quality assurance and dosimetric checks performed.

·         To ensure the highest levels of radiation safety in all duties.

·         Critically evaluate target volume mark-ups with Clinical Oncologists and Specialist Registrars. Grow planning target volumes according to Clinical Oncologist’s specifications and/or departmental protocols

·         Understand the operation of the treatment machines and appreciate their potential and limitations with regard to treatment techniques.
