Job overview

We are looking for motivated Band 7 nurse to take on the lead for Education and Professional  development for the Neonatal team.

You must be forward thinking and positive in your approach to change. Demonstrate effective communication and organisation skills.

We are a friendly, supportive and progressive team in a purpose built unit that has 28 cots  these consist of 12 ITU/ HDU and 16 Special Care cots and the service provides care to babies from across the county. A recent addition to our service is the provision of Neonatal Nursing support to our maternity ward through the establishment of a 4 cot Transitional Care facility.

Main duties of the job

To educate and operationally support a busy clinical Neonatal environment facilitating development of individuals through education and training pathways.  The post holder will actively attend Network, Trust and divisional meetings to improve training and educational needs, helping to lead professional practice standards, and providing best care for everyone utilising the best available evidence-based practice.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will be responsible for facilitating the learning and continuing development of all staff within the unit, ensuring education is responsive to service developments. You will ensure education and clinical skills are delivered in line with key priorities and objectives within neonates for staff to deliver safe and excellent family care. In collaboration with multidisciplinary team, you will be required to develop and maintain an evidence- based service for education and supporting technology-based education resources.

You will coordinate and provide induction training for all new staff working on the unit and assist in supporting and evaluation of learning contracts and objectives for staff, working in conjunction with the ward managers to support all staff within their role. You will lead by example, demonstrating effective role modelling to all members of the multidisciplinary team and provide clinical supervision as required.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse/midwife (Adult or Child) (or equivalent) with current NMC registration.
  • BSc (Hons) in nursing related subject.
  • Masters or working towards
  • Post-registration teaching qualification or working towards (PGCE)
  • Professional Nurse/Midwife Advocate or willing to undertake
Desirable criteria
  • Leadership and Management
  • Newborn Life Support (NLS)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experienced nurse with post registration qualification in neonatal speciality or PICU qualification with neonatal specific foundation QIS or neonatal experience
  • Post registration-teaching experience at band 6 or above
Desirable criteria
  • Experience at working at band 6/7 managing a team
  • Experience in simulation training

Knowledge / Skills

Essential criteria
  • Able to prioritise own workload to ensure staff are developed
  • Able to adapt personal approach to staff to suit different learning styles and needs.
  • Excellent presentation, communication and interpersonal skills
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence in writing, up-dating and use of competencies for equipment and skills essential
  • Contribute to the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policies/protocols/guidelines relevant to neonatology
