Main duties of the job

We are looking for enthusiastic, experienced radiographers to join the team in Cross-sectional Imaging as a Band 7 Advanced Clinical Specialist role.

You will need to be highly skilled in a wide range of CT and MRI applications in order to scan, advise and support junior and less experienced colleagues – a post graduate qualification is desirable.

You will also need to show that you have the skills to be an effective leader, coupled with a good knowledge of day to day operational service need.

Good communication skills and an understanding of other services both within and outside of Radiology are paramount to fulfil the co-ordinators roles associated with this post.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This is a full-time position-37.5 hours per week. There is 1 internal vacancy and 1 external vacancy.  We operate a full 24 hour, 7 day service and you will be working on the Southampton General & Royal South Hants site as part of the developing community diagnostic hub. Full participation in the Band 7 rota is required, however job share may be considered. You will be working closely with our department superintendents, protocol, education and research leads to maintain excellent imaging standards and to develop our CSI team & service.

Our supportive team of Superintendent Radiographers and Radiologists lead our imaging services with an open and inclusive approach to our work. Our radiography team are actively encouraged to personally develop along their career path with strong future opportunities available in this continually developing organisation.

The successful post holder will be an integral member of the cross sectional team with a high level of competence in imaging. You must also be able to demonstrate good communication skills, professionalism and a flexible approach to working to support the department superintendents and CSI team in delivering an efficient and effective service.

Qualifications / training required

Essential criteria
  • Degree in Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent qualification
  • Current HCPC registration
  • Level 7 Post graduate qualification in area of clinical specialism or equivalent experience
  • Sound knowledge of Radiation Protection regulations including IR(ME)R 2017, IRR 17
  • Evidence of ability to support a range of learners in practice or supporting colleagues to promote learning in practice
  • Equipment Super user within area of speciality
Desirable criteria
  • Change Management Qualification
  • Formal management/supervisory training

Previous or relevant experience necessary

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of advanced imaging knowledge in area of specialism
  • Extensive post qualification experience in area of clinical specialism
  • Ability to prioritise work and adapt to changing deadlines
  • Detailed knowledge of imaging systems within area of imaging speciality
  • I.T skills and ability to develop skills further
  • Extensive knowledge of the guidelines relating to clinical specialist area
  • Sound knowledge of all areas of Governance Knowledge of Trust policies and professional issues
  • Demonstration of knowledge of other departments work practices with which radiology has a significant interface
  • Evidence of previous teaching experience
