Job overview

This is post is for a Clinical Fellow in ENT at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Winchester.

This is an appointment to increase capacity available in the ENT departments and provide specialist training in Sinus surgery and Facial plastic surgery, alongside rhinology which meets the funding requirements of the local ICB.

The post is ideally suited for a post-CCT candidate wishing to pursue further training. The programme will vary depending on the experience of the successful applicant. In the first 3-4 months the surgical ability and levels of competencies will be assessed and training tailored accordingly. The programme structure is based on a weekly timetable across Winchester and Southampton Hospitals. Adequate time is given towards designing and developing research projects.

Main duties of the job

The post is to assist the Consultant staff in caring for their patients. Additionally, the participation in clinical audit and educational activities is expected. The successful candidate will be responsible to a named Consultant as per nationally agreed Terms and Conditions. You will be expected to maintain and improve Patients’ Chart standards where appropriate.

The job plan comprises of eight fixed clinical sessions across the outpatient department and theatres, and two sessions allocated for continuing professional development. The timetable will be confirmed with the successful applicant following appointment.

The timetable may include an additional on-call commitment.

The post holder accepts that he or she will perform other duties as required including emergency cover.

All scheduled sessions are in Royal Hampshire County Hospital (Winchester), Andover War Memorial Hospital (Andover), or University Hospitals Southampton (Southampton).

Working for our organisation

The ENT Department at Royal Hampshire County Hospital is closely linked with University Hospital Southampton to allow the development of subspecialty skills at each site for a combined population in excess of 600,000. Our in-patients are cared for in the Winchester Treatment Centre adjacent providing purpose built facilities for both adults and children. The full range of surgical services includes functional endoscopic sinus surgery, middle ear and mastoid surgery, laser surgery and treatment of benign head and neck disease including parotid and thyroid surgery. Close working with the Dermatology department brings in a large number of skin lesions requiring surgical treatment.
