Job overview
Do you have a passion for fire safety in the public sector? We are recruiting to our fire safety team and are looking for a fire safety adviser to support the delivery of fire safety improvements across the Trust.
The fire safety team are responsible for delivering fire safety improvement work across all three sites - Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Royal Hampshire County Hospital and Andover War Memorial Hospital. Work is varied and includes delivering fire training and drills, undertaking fire risk assessments, working with contractors, investigating near misses and incidents and providing fire safety advice in a range of clinical and non-clinical settings.
We are looking for an experienced fire safety professional who will be able to understand and interpret NHS HTM Firecode standards, balancing fire safety and clinical operational risks.
Main duties of the job
- Work as a core member of the fire safety team to develop and maintain a fire safety culture and environment which will reduce the risk of harm to patients, staff and visitors. This includes the delivery of proactive work programmes of awareness raising, risk assessments and inspections in compliance with legislative frameworks.
- Ensure that the Trust’s fire safety activities reflect national and local guidance and initiatives in relation to fire safety requirements. This includes providing assurance that the Trust is meeting statutory and regulatory requirements and where there are gaps these are clearly and robustly articulated in reports and forward mitigation plans for delivery.
- Support arrangements to ensure that appropriate policies, procedures and systems are in place to support fire safety and that robust governance processes monitor the implementation and effectiveness of compliance within and across the Trust. This includes the prioritisation of fire safety improvement works.
- Support with fire safety issues with specific reference to the NHS Firecode (HTM) standards and the requirements of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
