Job overview

A permanent full-time developmental vacancy has arisen for a suitably qualified, experienced person to join the Lung Function and Sleep Service at the Wye Valley NHS Trust Hospital in Hereford.

The department performs a full range of routine and specialist lung function investigations; including full lung function tests, A full range of sleep studies are performed, including; home oximetry, home respiratory sleep studies.

Approximately 1200 patients are currently treated and monitored with CPAP.

The post will be across three site including the new CDC created in Hereford.

The role will be to perform a range of routine lung function tests including spirometry, flow volume loops, gas transfer, static lung volumes, pulse oximetry and field exercise tests as well as administrative tasks.

The successful candidate will need to be an experienced, friendly and highly motivated person. A commitment to providing a high quality service is essential. Full training will be provided and the candidate will be expected to undertake a national assessment.

You should be educated to NVQ 3 level in a relevant subject or equivalent level of qualification or significant previous proven experience, plus addition la knowledge / training to diploma level.

 

Main duties of the job

  • Set up, download and provide a technical report regarding overnight oximetry sleep studies.
  • Set up and download cardio respiratory polygraphy sleep study.  
  • Take ownership of the CPAP spares and repairs clinical workload to facilitate and support patients using therapy. Address any patient concerns and clinical queries involving with their CPAP treatment including adjustments to treatment interface, therapy comfort adjustments, and general sleep advice regarding compliance and sleep hygiene. Escalate any complex information or requests to senior clinical staff.
  • Take ownership of stock control of the WVT Sleep service storage cupboard including ordering supplies on Integra and liaising with Industry representatives.
  • Identify equipment faults and problem solving appropriate to level of expertise.
  • Assist in the day to day running of the department with any queries that may arise
  • Perform a range of breathing tests such as: spirometry, gas transfer, static lung volumes etc.

Education & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to NVQ level 3 in relevant subject or equivalent level of qualification or significant equivalent previous proven experience, plus additional knowledge / training to diploma level
  • ARTP qualification e.g. ARTP part 1 or associate examination or willingness to work towards
  • Evidence of continuous professional development

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

Essential criteria
  • IT skills
  • Good communication skills
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge and demonstrable competency in a range of routine lung function tests including spirometry, gas transfer and static lung volumes
  • Knowledge and understanding of basic sleep investigations and CPAP.
  • Ability to perform ECG
