Job overview
We have an exciting opportunity for a Locum Specialty Doctor to join our Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit team on a fixed-term 6 month contract at our Dartford locality.
There is one Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit based at Dartford. PICU services also provide PICU Liaison service covering the whole Trust. The service group also includes Crisis Teams across the Trust, usually co-located with the In-patient Units.
The Acute Service also manages the Liaison Service. There are 3 acute wards within Little Brook Hospital – Pinewood; Amberwood and Cherrywood wards.
This is a 10 PA post however the Trust would welcome a discussion with individuals looking for a more flexible working pattern to support work-life balance.

Applicants must have full registration with the GMC including licence to practice.
MHA Section 12(2) Approval holders will contribute to a middle-tier non-residential on call rota. Specialty doctors who do not hold Section 12 (2) Approval are expected to work towards this and will be supported to do so.
Main duties of the job
*Active involvement in daily clinical reviews, pre-discharge meetings, Section 117 planning meetings etc as and when necessary; to work collaboratively with the consultant and MDT in the assessment, treatment and management of psychiatric inpatients.
*The post holder’s primary role will be to support the consultant in the provision of psychiatric services to the population of the relevant area. See relevant sections above for a comprehensive description of the roles and responsibilities.
*Attendance at CPA Reviews as the medical member of the team.To prepare reports (with supervision and support as needed) and attend Mental Health Act Tribunals as and when necessary, in agreement with the supervising consultant.
*With the patient’s consent, to ensure the involvement of families and carers, wherever possible, in treatment planning.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
Desirable criteria
- MRCPsych OR a specialist qualification from an EU country that complies with EU directive 2005/36/EU.
Clinical skills, knowledge & experience
Essential criteria
- At least 4 years postgraduate experience, including at least 2 years in core psychiatry training programme.
- Good knowledge in specialty.
- Good clinical skills using biopsycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge.
- Good oral and written communication skills in English.
Desirable criteria
- Postgraduate experience in specialty

- Able to use and appraise clinical evidence
- Has actively participated in clinical audit.
