Job overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic applicant for a full time Consultant post (10PAs) in Integrated Sexual Health commencing in July 2025 to work alongside a dynamic team of sexual health professionals working at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust. This post is to work in North Kent at the Riverside Clinic, Gravesham Community Hospital and Overy Street clinic, Dartford. We are looking for someone who can lead the Clinical Governance for our service and develop high quality clinical outcomes for our diverse local population. We are looking for an applicant who wants to work innovatively to deliver effective patient care and collaborate with our experienced and flexible multidisciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will be expected to work 10 PAs of Direct Clinical Care DCC (8DCC and 2 SPA) with each PA being a 4-hour session. Consultations are 30 -45 minutes depending on the type of clinic undertaken. Thirty minutes of DCC admin time is included within each session to allow for patient related admin and to provide clinical support of the nursing staff who run clinics alongside the Consultants. It is expected that Consultants will support the training of sexual health staff, medical students and other professionals interested in sexual health.
The successful applicant will be expected to attend and contribute to relevant clinical and management meetings including a monthly team meeting, Clinical Ops meeting and Directorate meeting and any additional clinical meetings that require their presence. Time is allocated within the job plan for these and can be adjusted as responsibility changes.
Working for our organisation

The Trust was legally established on 14 February 2000 and provides a full range of general hospital services, and some areas of specialist complex care to around 760,000 people living in the south of west Kent and the north of East Sussex. It also provides specialist care including ophthalmology, stroke and sexual health services to a wider population. The Trust’s Chair is Annette Doherty, the Chief Executive is Miles Scott and the Medical Director is Dr Sara Mumford.
The Trust employs a team of over 8,000 staff. Its core catchment areas are Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells and their surrounding boroughs, and it operates from three main clinical sites: Fordcombe Hospital, Maidstone Hospital and Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury.
The Trust provides specialist cancer services to around 2 million people in Kent, Medway and East Sussex, via the Kent Oncology Centre at Maidstone Hospital, and at Kent and Canterbury Hospital in Canterbury. We also provide outpatient clinics across a range of locations in Kent and East Sussex.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The successful applicant will have responsibility to contribute to our sexual health strategy in line with the National Strategies and Kent Public Health priorities including meeting our accessibility targets, population health targets including ending the HIV epidemic (UK 2030 Zero HIV Transmission), increasing Chlamydia testing in those aged < 25 years and reducing unplanned pregnancy through availability of LARC contraception.
The successful applicant will be responsible for managing a case load of GUM and HIV patients and supporting nurse led clinics.
