Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity to join KMMH as a Medical Education Undergraduate Fellow, Trust Grade ST4-ST7 doctor.

This is a full-time post, 40 hours per week, with an option to join the Tier 2 on-call rota for section 12 approval holders.  Part-time applications will also be considered.  The post is available with immediate effect up until 4th August 2026.

The post holder will be expected to attend various locations in Kent for meetings, teaching sessions and events but the base of the post can be flexible to suit the appointed candidate.

This Medical Education Fellow post is being hosted by Kent and Medway Mental Health NHS Trust. The fellowship role is a position that has been created to support Undergraduate workstreams concerning Medical Student Psychiatry Placements taking place at KMPT. The medical students we receive are linked to Medical Schools: King's College London School of Medicine (GKT) and Kent and Medway Medical School (KMMS).

Funding for a Postgraduate Qualification in Education will be available to the appointed candidate to undertake in the year.

Main duties of the job

This post is designed to support ST4-7s who wish to make a commitment to education as part of their career. The ‘out of programme experience’ (OOPE) post, based at Kent and Medway Mental Health NHS Trust, is aimed at those who wish to build on their personal teaching experience, develop expertise in educational theory and practice, and undertake supervised educational research.

The post holder will have a designated educational mentor who will oversee their development as an educator during the placement and co-ordinate opportunities for personal development. A customised programme of training and educational experience will be designed around the needs of the individual.

Although an enthusiasm for teaching is a prerequisite, no assumptions will be made about formal knowledge of educational theory or practice. Hands-on teaching will be central to the post, as will a critical engagement with educational issues around providing undergraduate and postgraduate training in a changing context, both nationally and locally.

Use of AI when writing job applications

While AI tools can be helpful in generating ideas and drafting initial versions, they should never be the sole source for writing your job application.

AI cannot truly understand the specific job you're applying for or what makes you a good fit. Therefore, it's crucial to personalise any AI-generated content to accurately reflect your skills, experiences, and aspirations.

Relying solely on AI to write your application may result in generic, impersonal, and potentially inaccurate content. Always review and refine any AI-generated text to ensure it effectively communicates your experience, skills, accomplishments, and aspirations, and demonstrates your suitability for the position.
