Job overview
We are seeking a committed and compassionate Dental Officer to join our Community NHS Trust team, providing high-quality dental care within secure environments.
You will deliver dental services based at HMP Rochester and HMP
Swaleside, Sheerness but you may at times need to attend other sites, caring for patients detained in His Majesty’s Prison establishments. This role offers variety, professional challenge, and the opportunity to work with a dedicated multidisciplinary team in a highly supportive setting.
Main duties of the job
We’re looking for someone with:
• Full GDC registration
• Strong clinical skills and a calm, compassionate approach
• A commitment to tackling health inequalities
You will provide:
• Tier 2 level dental care for paediatric and special care patients who
have been referred into the service
• Dental treatment under inhalation sedation (and intravenous
sedation if required by service need)
• Involve patients in their care and treatment. Offer information, support and motivation to patients regarding oral health, diet and smoking

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Dental degree (BDS, BChd or recognised equivalent)
- Satisfactory completion of Dental Foundation Training year. Performer Number with NHS England Registration with GDC without conditions imposed
- Full UK Driving Licence
Desirable criteria
- Other postgraduate qualifications
- Experience of salaried service and/or special care dentistry and/or paediatric dentistry MFDS, MJDF
Experience
Essential criteria
- Maintains professional knowledge, competence and continuing professional development.
- Has current GDC registration with no restrictions and has a performer number with demonstrable experience within NHS dentistry
- Experience of providing care which requires the application of sound ethical and professional principles in a complex physical, social or intellectual context.
- Professional clinical approach including participation in appraisal, peer review, clinical audit and continuing professional development activities
- Sufficient knowledge, confidence and experience to deal sensitively and professionally with issues of poor or under performance in colleagues and other members of the dental team
Desirable criteria
- Experience in using advanced sedation technique – e.g. intranasal sedation technique
- Knowledge of dentally software system or similar computerised dental charging system
- Knowledge of wider dental environment
- Experience in providing treatment under inhalation sedation and Intravenous sedation
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Willingness to participate in clinical research and audit as directed with the potential to take the lead in clinical research projects or audits within their competence
Desirable criteria
- Clinical Teaching
