We are currently recruiting for two band 5 (Fixed term 6 months contract) radiographers to join our Cross Sectional Imaging team at East Lancashire NHS Hospitals Trust. The successful applicants will have excellent Image quality and patient care high on their agenda. They will be working with a highly skilled team of radiographers, radiologists and radiology assistants, who provide a patient-focused CT service.

The department is set over 3 sites, Blackburn Royal Hospital and Burnley General Hospital and Rosendale Primary care and currently consists of 5 CT Scanners and 5 MRI scanners.

· 1 Siemens X-cite Ct scanner with CT Perfusion for our acute and ED work

 · 1 Canon Prism one with cardiac applications

·  1 Canon Aquilion Lightening SP

· 1 Toshiba Aquilion Prime CT Scanner

· 1 GE Revolution Ascend at Burnley General Hospital

· 2 x 1.5 T Canon Vantage Orian MRI scanners

· Siemens Sola-Fit

· Siemens Sola

· Philips Ingenia Evolution mobile unit currently sited at Rossendale. Can be moved to Clitheroe and Blackburn mobile pads.

Main duties of the job

To provide a high quality responsive diagnostic radiographic service for CT scanning department, whilst maintaining a high standard of patient care.

To take responsibility for the organisation of staff and workflow recognizing the global needs of the department and service provided.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Radiographer to join our team at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust.

Complete training will be provided via robust training plan to support enhancement of knowledge and skills in CT scanning.

The successful applicant will be a keen team player who has image quality and patient care high on their agenda.

Candidates should have a flexible approach to their working hours as this contract will be flexible across 7 day working.

The post holder will be expected to rotate across all the CT departments to support service and professional development. This is a forward thinking Radiology department that supports Radiographer advanced practice, we have 2 CT Head Reporting Radiographers, 2 MRI Reporting Radiographer and trained CT Colonography Radiographers. 

You will have demonstrated the skills necessary to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and have the ability to take the lead in the absence of Senior Colleagues. 

We are an innovative department constantly looking at ways to optimise patient care by offering role development for our team.  In Radiology we have Consultant Radiographers, a large reporting radiographer team including CT Head reporting and MR MSK reporting.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  1. To perform a broad range of CT examinations on patients commensurate with a high level of radiographic skill under the direct supervision of a band 6 radiographer.
  2. To undertake the autonomous evaluation of CT scan images for diagnostic suitability.
  3. Ensure a high standard of patient care, both clinical and pastoral
    commensurate with good practice, ensuring all aspects of the service are delivered within the departments defined quality standards.
  4.  To maintain and promote a high quality patient focussed service.
  5.  To review images and ensure that supplementary imaging procedures/views are considered prior to the patient departure from the department.
  6. To participate in the departments, 7 day a week shift system which will include weekend, Bank Holiday and some night shifts.
  7. Comply with the Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017 (IRR17) ensuring radiation doses are kept as low as reasonable achievable in line with Diagnostic Reference Levels (DRL).
  8. To understand and comply with Safety guidelines.
  9. Ensure general cleanliness and tidiness of all clinical areas including cleaning and disposal of clinical and hazardous waste.
  10. To administer contrast media when required according to departmental policies and procedures, intravenous injection certificate is desirable. If not willingness to undertake this training is required.
  11. To have sufficient knowledge to assess when the use of contrast media may be contra-indicated and can assess the patient's physical condition post injection, to check for any reaction and take appropriate  steps if a reaction occur.
  12.  Awareness of Health and Safety precautions in respect of staff, patients and visitors.
  13. To participate in the Quality Assurance Programme and take part in departmental audit.
  14. Communicate effectively with all patients, relatives, carers and other health professionals.
  15. To ensure multidisciplinary communication and team working takes place.
  16. To assist in the training of student radiographers, Assistant Practitioners and other staff within the department.
  17. To participate in the PDR process as determined by Trust Policy.
  18. To ensure all Mandatory Training is completed each year.
  19.  To keep up to date with current imaging developments, both technical and operational.
  20. To maintain a high level of current radiographic knowledge.
  21. Maintain and update knowledge regarding developments affecting radiology and trust computer systems.
  22. Have a sound knowledge of IT based skills.

  23. To report all equipment faults.

  24. Uphold professional conduct at all times in accordance with the Society of radiographers (SOR) 'Statements for Professional Conduct' and Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) 'Standards of Proficiency for Radiographers'

Person specification

Essential

Essential criteria
  • Radiography Degree/Diploma of College in Radiographers
  • Full HCPC Registration
  • Able to work within a team
  • Able to participate in 24/7 shift system and work flexible hours
  • Clear and accurate written and verbal communication
Desirable criteria
  • Post Qualification experience in Radiographer CT
  • Experience of Performing IV cannulations
  • Good IT skills and ability to use IT systems
