The Trust is part of the Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care System (ICS) supporting a population of around 1.6 million people.

We have three main hospitals providing acute services to around 330,000 local residents. The organisation also provides specialist tertiary care for cardiac and haematology services, delivers community health services to over 445,000 residents including those in North Lancashire and hosts the National Artificial Eye Service across England. Plus, we provide urgent and emergency care services to an estimated 18 million people who visit the seaside resort each year. We employ over 7000 people from 68 different countries.

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a confident, experienced and talented Executive Director of Nursing, Midwifery, Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) and Quality to join the Trust Board.
This role is critical to the vision for health care that the Trust recently set out in its new five-year strategy and, for the right person, is a huge opportunity with huge potential to make an impact and a difference to colleagues, partners and local people living across Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre.

Main duties of the job

Providing highly visible professional leadership and direction for colleagues is a critical part of this role. We’re looking for someone who will work closely with medical, operational and corporate colleagues to inspire improvements that make a real difference to our patients and their families. In addition, as a key part of the Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care System, you’ll need to actively build relationships and collaborate openly with colleagues across the Integrated Care Board, the Provider Collaborative and the area’s five providers.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered General Nurse.
  • Master's degree, other relevant postgraduate qualification in nursing or related/relevant subject or equivalent experience.
  • Management qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Evidence of continuing professional and personal development.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Board level experience.
  • At least 3 year's senior management experience in an NHS acute trust, operating at or close to Board level in an acute Trust.
  • Expert knowledge and skills in managing the demands of the Nursing, Midwifery and AHP workforce.
  • Recent evidence of introducing practice innovation and change in professional practice.
  • Detailed understanding of the process and delivery of healthcare services and of government policy for modernising healthcare.
  • Experience of leading significant organisational change.
  • Experience of improving services and patient experience through patient engagement.
  • Experience in nursing and midwifery issues which includes NMC requirements, pre and post registration nurse education and the educational implications of the workforce redesign agenda.
  • Experience of managing significant projects to successful completion. Experience of partnership working at a senior level with other professions and disciplines towards a common goal.
  • Experience of successful experience in leading the patient safety and quality agenda within an acute Trust environment
  • Experience of delivering high levels of productivity and efficiency.
