Job overview

We are looking to recruit suitably qualified doctors to work as a bank Doctor in your area of interest to support the continuous service improvement in the Hospital. The work will range from a single shift to an extended post, with evening, weekend and on-call shifts available (depending on individual departmental availability). As this is bank work, there is no guaranteed hours and shifts will be booked on an ad-hoc basis.

Main duties of the job

·         To hold key internal and external relationships between nursing staff, clinicians, patients and relatives to ensure safe care always

·         Attend and participate in board rounds, ward rounds and other related daily activities

·         Provide appropriate workplace supervision to other staff members and workers as required

·         To maintain high standards of professionalism at all times

·         To be punctual for the shift that you have agreed to carry out

·         Attend local induction where required and maintain any required mandatory training

·         Comply with local policies and procedures, including upholding the Trust’s values and behaviours

·         Other duties commensurate with the post and/or grade as advertised by the clinical specialty

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Whilst on duty a doctor has a clinical and professional responsibility for their patients. It is also the duty of the doctor to:

·         Keep patients (and / or carers) informed about their condition

·         Involve patients (and / or carers) in decision making about their treatment

·         Maintain professional standards and obligations as set out by the General Medical Council

 

Doctors will be expected to be flexible and cooperate with reasonable requests to cover for their colleagues’ absences where they are safe and competent to do so.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND ELIGIBILITY

Essential criteria
  • • MB, BS or equivalent
  • • Full GMC registration
  • • For consultants, evidence of completion of specialty training (or equivalent) and proof of eligibility for entry to the GMC Specialist Register within 6 months
Desirable criteria
  • • MRCP part 1 or 2

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE

Essential criteria
  • • minimum of 6 months experience in a UK healthcare system at F2 level or above

• SKILLS AND ABILITY

Essential criteria
  • • Clinical Knowledge & Expertise:
  • Capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge & judgement & prioritise clinical need.
  • • Demonstrates understanding of the principles of audit, research and evidence-based practice, with potential to contribute to research
  • • Competent in the management of medical emergencies
  • • All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English that are adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues which could be demonstrated by one of the following: a) that applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English b) international English Language Testing System (IELTS)
  • • Computer Literate

  • • Attendance at relevant courses, e.g. ALS, ALERTS or equivalent
  • • Evidence of contributing to teaching & learning of others
  • • Evidence of participation in research
