Specialised Paediatric Physiotherapist – Band 6 Permanent position

A minimum of 18 months post graduate NHS experience in general rotations, including respiratory is an essential criteria for this role.

We have an exciting opportunity for a qualified physiotherapist to join our acute children’s physiotherapy team at Blackpool Victoria Hospital. We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and forward thinking physiotherapist to join our hospital based paediatric physiotherapy team. The post holder will gain experience in:

·         Acute paediatrics to include in and out-patient services (MSK 0-5yrs)

·         Cystic Fibrosis Service

·         Congenital Talipes Service

This is a permanent static position within the Families and Integrated Community Care Division. The hours are part-time 24.25 hours.

We offer a full induction and development package, in-service training, clinical supervision and the opportunity to develop your skills within the paediatric specialist areas.

Ideally, applicants would have some general paediatric experience.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is responsible for provision of assessment, treatment, intervention and discharge planning of children referred to the service.

To hold responsibility for own paediatric caseload and be responsible for a defined area of the service to include inpatients and outpatient services, working without direct supervision

To work in a flexible manner responding to the current and future needs of the paediatric service.

To work in close collaboration with consultants and doctors in paediatrics and orthopaedics to establish an efficient and effective service to include attendance at clinic sessions (CF clinic)

To complete training in the ponseti technique and with supervision and support to be able to treat patients with a diagnosis of congenital talipes from birth to skeletal maturity

 To be an active member of the in-service training programme by the attendance and delivery of presentations and training sessions at staff meetings, tutorials, training sessions.

 To support the delivery of the paediatric physiotherapy on-call competency package. 

To communicate effectively and work collaboratively with medical, nursing and therapy colleagues to ensure delivery of a co-ordinated multidisciplinary service

Essential criteria
  • Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy
  • HCPC Registered
  • Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio, including attendance at recent post graduate courses relevant to the speciality
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.
  • Membership of relevant special interest groups

Experience and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of 18 months post graduate NHS experience in general rotations, including respiratory
  • Management, development and supervision of students/ physiotherapy assistants
  • Experience of teaching students and assistants
  • Experience of audit process
  • Participation in an On Call Respiratory Service
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in paediatric respiratory physiotherapy
  • Attended post graduate course in respiratory/paediatrics
  • Experience of student placement or rotation in paediatrics
  • Active participation with In-Service Training
