Job overview
Resuscitation Services are looking for friendly and highly motivated team members to join them as Clinical Resuscitation Officers. The team strives to empower, develop and support our clinical workforce to deliver the safest care in emergencies and efforts to prevent them. This is a busy department, where commitment, motivation and openness to learning are essential elements of the role.
Main duties of the job
With a strong emphasis on delivery of training, key goals include the provision of a wide range of Resuscitation Council(UK) course to the Trust’s large clinical workforce, including its tertiary cardiac centre. Courses include adult, paediatric and neo-natal based competencies at all levels from basic to advanced, and we are also a centre which delivers the Generic Instructor Course. The successful candidate will be expected to engage across a wide range of these courses and also support new ways of thinking to ensure we meet our challenges. Alongside the training provision, the role includes clinical responses to emergencies, ensuring emergency readiness with essential equipment, and supporting the trust patient safety initiatives.
The team supports urgent calls and 2222 calls, including medical emergency, cardiac arrest and massive haemorrhage. It provides advice and guidance, alongside audit and standard setting for the safe delivery of resuscitation services and skills across the Trust and works with its partnered teams to support initiatives aimed at recognising and responding to acute deterioration. This directly contributes to the reduction of cardiac arrests and key elements of the Trust’s clinical strategy.

Education and Qualification
Essential criteria
- Registered Health Care Professional i.e. Registered Nurse, Paramedic, ODP, AHP
- Current ILS qualification
- ALS Provider
Desirable criteria
- APLS / EPALS Provider/Instructor
- Additional Post-Registration qualification
- ALS Instructor
Experience and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Ability to work with staff of all disciplines and professional backgrounds as part of a team
- Evidence of an in-depth knowledge of contemporary resuscitation issues including the Resuscitation Council (UK and ERC) guidelines and recommendations
- Post registration experience within an acute healthcare setting (minimum of 2 years)
- Previous clinical experience of dealing with seriously ill patients and / or cardiac arrest situations.
- Evidence of developing practice for others
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of team leadership
- Knowledge of governance issues and NHS standards relevant to the sphere of resuscitation training and practice
- Experience of Audit

Skills and ability
Essential criteria
- Holds a valid, in-date (UK) driving licence
- Excellent standard of written and oral communication skills
- Fully conversant with up to date resuscitation practice and procedures
- Is well organised and able to prioritise own workload effectively, delivering to deadlines
- IT literate
- Current competencies in performing venepuncture and cannulation and 12 lead ECG
- Ability to support relatives/staff following resuscitation attempts
- Demonstrates positive and confident nature, kind and empathetic approach to both patients and staff
- Is reliable, honest, and trustworthy
- Understands and recognises personal and other limitations
- Physical stamina to arrive at medical emergencies in a timely manner and subsequently undertake prolonged and strenuous periods of resuscitation.
- Ability to cope with emotionally challenging situations
- Ability to demonstrate ongoing professional development
- Evidence of ability to act on own initiative and to manage situations in the wider context
- Evidence of sound decision making ability, particularly in emergency situations when there is a need for speed and accuracy
