Day Surgery Unit Staff Nurse

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is situated on the west coast of Lancashire, with services covering the local authority areas of Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre. The Trust is part of the Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care System (ICS) supporting a population of around 1.6 million people.

We have three main hospitals providing acute services to around 330,000 local residents. The organisation also provides specialist tertiary care for cardiac and haematology services, delivers community health services to over 445,000 residents including those in North Lancashire and hosts the National Artificial Eye Service across England. Blackpool teaching hospitals are looking for a highly motivated and committed band 5 Nurse to work on the Day Surgery Unit .  This post is part time 19.5 hours per week. The unit is currently open Monday to Saturday  7am – 10pm.  DSU also  support an adult escalation ward that sometimes opens within the unit  shifts. It is important that you are flexible with your working hours and location.
The unit cares for pre and post-operative patients undergoing a wide range of surgical procedures; these include general surgery, urology, orthopaedic, gynaecology, ENT, breast, vascular and maxillofacial. We also deliver care to patients attending for nephrostomy changes and a wide range of medical biopsies and many other procedures.
We are looking for an individual who can communicate clearly  with a can do attitude who is You will need to demonstrate a passion for Surgical Nursing and have the ability to work within our friendly Day Surgery Team. You must support the Nurse in charge to maintain high standards of care, be enthusiastic, adaptable and outstanding communication skills and be willing to learn and develop new skills within your role.

A.                 MANAGING ACTIVITIES

A1. Maintain activities to meet requirements

A1.1   Ensure all policies/protocols/standards are upheld and abide by all policies and procedures regarding implementation, monitoring, training and audit of infection prevention and control issues

A1.2   Maintain Health and Safety for all staff, patients, visitors and members of the multidisciplinary team following the Trust’s policy.

A1.3   The post holder must comply with all relevant policies, procedures and training on infection prevention and control.

A1.4   Attend yearly updates for all statutory training.

A1.5   Take charge of a clinical area unsupervised after progressing through the foundation gateway, this will be on an occasional basis. Once the post holder has gained sufficient experience and has fulfilled their competencies, they will be required to take charge of a clinical area on a regular basis

 

 

A2. Manage activities to meet requirements

A2.1   Report and document accidents, incidents and losses.

 

 

A3. Manage activities to meet customer requirements

A3.1   Be accountable within the team for the planning, implementing and evaluation of patient care, maintaining agreed standards and ensuring patient satisfaction.

A3.2   Arrange for the care of patients’ valuables and other property as per Trust policy
