Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is situated on the west coast of Lancashire, with services covering the local authority areas of Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre. The Trust is part of the Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care System (ICS) supporting a population of around 1.6 million people.

We have three main hospitals providing acute services to around 330,000 local residents. The organisation also provides specialist tertiary care for cardiac and haematology services, delivers community health services to over 445,000 residents including those in North Lancashire and hosts the National Artificial Eye Service across England. Plus, we provide urgent and emergency care services to an estimated 18 million people who visit the seaside resort each year. We employ over 7000 people from 68 different countries.

We have an exciting opportunity for a children’s nurse to join the children’s community nursing team on a permanent  fulltime /part time  contract     . The Childrens Community team  work with children and young people at home, special schools and other community settings. They provide nursing care, support and education to children and families with a variety of medical conditions and complex needs.

The applicant must be dynamic, dedicated, self-motivated, and able to work well independently but also within a team. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential for the role as the successful candidate will deal with children, young people and families and the wider multidisciplinary team in the community. As a band 5 nurse the applicant will be expected to deputise for band 6 nurses when necessary and supervise junior members of staff.

The post holder will be based at Newton Drive Health Centre located close to Blackpool Teaching Hospital  . They can expect to be well supported via various routes including Trust induction, local team induction programme, clinical supervision, and Team meetings, Appraisal / Personal Development Review / Personal Development Plan etc. 

They will need to be a car driver to enable them to undertake the essential travel within this role.

The post holder will be responsible for the clinical care and treatments of children and young people as part of the Children’s community nursing team

The children and young people’s needs are paramount and nursing support to the child or young person will be delivered by the team wherever that child or young person is, working in home, and school settings for all children and young people aged 0 – 19 years.

The post holder will be flexible with their hours to provide support before school and in the evening, including contributing towards a 24/7 palliative care service. They will assist in the implementation and lead of clinical areas, ensuring that areas of practice  are evidence based, effective and meet any quality guidelines eg NICE.

Working within and adhering to the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code and standards of practice, including evidence portfolio for revalidation purposes.

Communicating effectively, and working collaboratively with clinical colleagues and external agencies to ensure the delivery of a coordinated, multidisciplinary and multi-agency service.

  • Experience of children’s community services
