Employer heading
Senior Oncoplastic Clinical Fellow
NHS Medical & Dental: Senior Clinical Fellow
Job overview
Bolton Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint an oncoplastic senior clinical fellow to join their breast surgery team. The appointment will be for a 12-month period initially, with the possibility of extension.
This post provides the opportunity to gain surgical experience in a full range of oncoplastic techniques including oncoplastic breast conserving surgery, implant-based breast reconstruction, acellular dermal matrices, chest wall perforator flaps, pedicle-flap reconstruction, free-flap breast reconstruction and lipomodelling.
The post is suitable for senior surgical trainees, wishing to pursue a career in oncoplastic breast surgery. Applicants must have full GMC registration and are expected to have completed the FRCS and be preparing for a consultant position. We are happy to support trainees working towards CESR, if the trainee has a clear interest in breast surgery as their specialty.
The successful candidate is expected to have NHS experience in managing common breast presentations and to be able to run new patient clinics independently. Due to the high ratio of consultants to senior trainees at Bolton Breast Unit, the successful applicant will have an excellent opportunity to increase their oncoplastic breast surgery experience. They should be keen to involve themselves in the breast unit’s research and audit activity, as well as the teaching timetable for junior doctors and medical students.
Paid NHS experience is essential to the role.
Main duties of the job
- To work with the multidisciplinary team to provide a comprehensive oncoplastic breast surgery service for the patients of Bolton.
- The post holder will be expected to work independently in new patient clinics.
- The successful applicant will be involved in teaching junior staff and medical students.
- It is expected that administrative work will be completed to a high standard and in a timely fashion.

The senior surgical team consists of 5 consultant oncoplastic breast surgeons an associate specialist breast surgeon and a GPER.
