Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic clinical or counselling psychologist who has a genuine passion for working with people with learning disabilities to join the learning disability team in Bolton. This position will be offered at either band 8a or within a band 7 - 8a preceptorship, dependent upon experience. You will form part of a supportive psychology team who will be committed to your development.

You will provide a direct clinical service to adults with learning disabilities who are experiencing psychological difficulties. You will also provide consultancy, training and advice to other clinical staff. You will contribute to the on-going planning, development and evaluation of the speciality and wider local learning disability service. Should you commence at band 7, at appointment to band 8a, you will have additional responsibility for developing the psychology service across our priority areas. You will be supervised and line managed by the lead clinical psychologist and will be part of a dynamic psychology team who offer adjusted therapy. There is a commitment to regular continuing professional development opportunities and reflective practice.

Main duties of the job

The role will primarily be in psychological assessment, formulation and intervention for adults with learning disabilities. You may be required to utilise and  analyse neuropsychological assessments to inform an individual's support. You may be required to offer supervision to assistant psychologists, and to trainee psychologists at an appropriate time. You may also offer advice, consultation and training to the MDT and/or staff teams. You may be required to undertake audits and research, or service development work.

Working for our organisation

This is an exciting time for the speciality as there is a new psychology team in place, led by a consultant psychologist. CLDT psychology in Bolton is based within an integrated, multi-disciplinary team with a strong, supportive and experienced health contingent.

The service has a commitment to supporting continuing professional development and the psychology service has regularly provided placements for local trainee clinical psychologists. The preceptorship role will involve funding and support for a suitable programme of learning and experience, therefore, those who have recently qualified, or will do so in the near future, and who have an interest in developing their career within learning disabilities, are strongly encouraged to apply.
