1 x 37.5 hours - Fixed  Term Contract (18 months)

This post offers an exciting opportunity to work with adult clients with acquired communication and swallowing difficulties in a range of settings, including hospital, Stroke Unit, outpatient and in clients’ homes. There will be the opportunity for full in–house dysphagia training if required.

We are a very friendly department offering regular staff meetings, clinical supervision and support from more senior therapists.

We are looking for an enthusiastic therapist, eager to develop your professional skills with an acquired neurology client group, whether as a newly qualified therapist, or an existing clinician keen to increase your experience with this caseload.

Wherever possible, the department will give serious consideration to requests for changes to the standard working pattern associated with the contracted hours for any post.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

  • assess, diagnose and treat disorders of communication and swallowing within the field of adult acquired neurology.
  • carry a personal caseload of adult clients and delivers a SLT service to clients individually referred;
  • develop professional knowledge and skills acquired during basic SLT training and initial work experience and increase both depth and breadth of clinical competence.
  • complete competences for newly qualified therapists set by the RCSLT
  • provide training regarding acquired disorders of communication/swallowing to others (AHPs, carers etc).

Essential criteria
  • Recognised SLT degree qualification or equivalent
  • Registered with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Registered membership of RCSLT (Practice Register)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of basic administration and organisation for caseload management
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of dysphagia assessment and management

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of a range of therapeutic interventions appropriate to the client group/s
  • Knowledge of a range of assessment tools and approaches appropriate to the client group/s
  • Aware of current professional and theoretical knowledge appropriate to the client group/s
  • Knowledge of child and vulnerable adult protection and safeguarding issues
