Our modern laboratory is fully computerised, with electronic connecting with wards and local GPs for requesting and delivering results. Main duties of the job

The post holder is a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist responsible for the management of the Haematology and Transfusion service by training, organising, and deploying the staff for safe, effective and efficient service delivery, providing a high standard of technical/scientific work within the available resources. The post holder will also be expected to be a subject matter expert in Haematology and Transfusion. The post holder will represent the Department of Laboratory Medicine (DLM) at Divisional Meetings within the Trust and externally as required

Essential criteria
  • in-depth knowledge of both theoretical and practical aspects of blood transfusion and haematology
  • Strategic awareness of current issues within Pathology
  • Evidence of on-going and relevant training within the speciality / discipline
  • Advanced knowledge relevant to the discipline of Haematology
  • Knowledge of conventional IT software e.g., Microsoft Office
  • Evidence of Supervisory or management training and/or experience
  • Professional experience within the NHS
  • Experience of active participation in UKAS quality assessments
  • Proven ability to organise workload in line with agreed schedules and deadlines
Desirable criteria
  • Successful delivery of training to others - either individuals or groups
  • Knowledge of service improvement / redesign tools and techniques

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive experience within the haematology and transfusion field
  • Supervisory or management experience
