Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 4 Neonatal Nursery Nurse to work within the Neonatal Home care Service, hosted by Leicester hospitals.
This model of Neonatal Community Care is provided across Leicestershire and Rutland and the Northamptonshire region, including University Hospitals of Leicester, Kettering General and Northampton General Hospitals . This position will be predominately based within Northamptonshire .
The post holder will be an excellent team worker and will be a key member of the team to provide the highest standard of clinical care and evidence based practice for infants within the scope of neonatal outreach, providing specialist on-going care for the neonate and advice, support and education to the family in the home environment.
This service provides continuing community care for babies and their families in the home setting. Home naso gastric tube feeding and the Home oxygen service is currently well imbedded , and more recently we have expanded services further to include care of babies at home on phototherapy for the treatment of jaundice.
We are seeking a highly motivated Neonatal Nursery Nurse to join our forward thinking family focused neonatal team. The successful candidate will demonstrate the drive and motivation to support the implementation of such an exciting service . To be successful in this role you will need to already have experience within the field of Maternity, neonatal care or community paediatrics.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Skills and Competencies
Able to work on own initiative, prioritise own workload and manage time efficiently
Provide education and support to assist mothers with their chosen method of feeding.
Provide education and support to families in preparation for discharge, delivering parent craft sessions as required.
Ensure specialized equipment is clean and set up ready for use. Be competent in the use of all equipment used in the remit of your care.
Following appropriate training the post holder will be able to:
- Pass nasogastric tubes and give gastric tube feeds as required
- Undertake routine blood spot screening & blood sampling
- Provide breast feeding advice. Support breast feeding assisting with positioning and fixing techniques.
- Bottle feeding advice to support the needs of the preterm baby transitioning from nasogastric feeds.
- Monitor babies' weight.
- Provide parent education including STORK programme eg Infant basic life support and choking demonstration and cot death prevention.

Essential criteria
- Good basic education
- GCSE in English and Math above a grade C
- QCF level 3/NNEB/Btec in Child Health/Health care/National Diploma in Nursery Nursing or equivalent /Nursing Associate
Desirable criteria
- Willingness to undertake Neonatal advanced life support
Experience
Essential criteria
- Minimum 1 years experience post qualification, caring for newborn babies
- Experience working in a neonatal unit / hospital setting
