Job overview

An exciting opportunity has become available for a highly skilled, enthusiastic and motivated senior nurse to join our Ophthalmology outpatient  Department at Freshney Place.

The Department provides outpatient services for all medical and surgical specialties and some for family services. The role will provide senior nursing management to Diana Princess of Wales  outpatients.

The applicant should be a senior nurse with previous management experience of successful leading change and be able to drive forward the skills of the established team within outpatients.

You must demonstrate excellent communicate skills, initiate drive and have the ability to lead a nursing team.

This will be an exciting time for the right candidate as outpatients is undergoing transformation led by Humber Coast and Vale and NHS England/Improvement initiatives.

Main duties of the job

As Outpatient Manager you must adhere to the Trusts values of kindness courage and respect, always promoting a positive attitude.  You must be an excellent communicator with an outstanding ability to critically think and prioritize workload.  Duties include workforce management, effective rostering, undertaking audits, staff performance and wellbeing management, training and development, stock ordering,  incident investigation, accountability for improving standards of care in line with quality  assurance tools and  attend regular meetings with the management team and divisions.

Person specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • First level registered nurse
  • • Current NMC registration
  • • Teaching and mentorship qualification
  • • Evidence of professional development in Outpatients
  • • Teaching/facilitation qualification or experience
Desirable criteria
  • • Educated to degree level in health related subject (or willingness to commence degree programme within 1 year in post) or be able to demonstrate equivalent level of Outpatient experience and/or education, training and development

Occupational Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Minimum 4 years post registration experience with 2 years at Band 6 Evidence of experience of taking charge and leading a team.
Desirable criteria
  • • Experience of research and audit.
  • • Experience in Outpatient transformation and NHS Plan and leading change
