Job overview

We are recruiting substantively into a Band 7 Clinical on Castle Ward.

Caring for our most acutely ill patients on our wards is a role of utmost importance and a crucial part of the Trust’s mental health support services. The contributions of our staff in these areas are invaluable and cannot be overstated.

We are excited to announce an opportunity to join Castle Ward, an 19 -bed female acute ward for adults experiencing  mental health issues. Castle Ward, the is a 24-hour facility serves working-age women (18-65) who are facing acute mental health challenges.

As a Clinical lead , you will need to exhibit strong leadership skills   Being curious, creative, self-aware, and assertive are essential qualification.

The postholder will need to:

  • Demonstrate a good knowledge of the operation and functioning of an acute ward
  • Be a team player and work well with colleagues both internally and externally to the service and effectively communicate not only within LPFT but with the wider healthcare system.
  • Be motivated to deliver outstanding clinical care to our patients and lead the team with their clinical interventions, formulations and treatment plans.
  • Work closely with the Ward Manager, Modern Matron and Service Manager to continue to offer excellent care for our patients

Main duties of the job

The role supports the high levels of Acuity and increased numbers of complex presentations being supported within LPFT’s acute wards. The post provides clinical oversite on their assigned wards, improves clinical outcomes for patients and provides support to ward managers. Band 7 clinical leads have become a relied upon resource within LPFT’s acute wards, their responsibilities is as follows:

  • Management of complex safeguarding issues with direction from the trusts safeguarding team.
  • Role modelling for the team
  • Implementation of learning from serious investigation.
  • Deputise for Ward Manager in their absence.
  • To ensure that services are delivered to maximise patient safety.
  • Contribute to performance improvement such as managerial & clinical supervision.
  • Implementation of new working practices to improve patient outcomes.
  • Leading and supporting the team with complex cases
  • To drive changes within services that benefit patients, carers and/or staff

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • RMN or RNLD or RN: 1st Level Registration (NMC) or degree or equivalent
  • Mentorship Module (degree level)
  • Evidence of specialised continued professional training (degree level) in clinical practice
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of specialised continued professional training in clinical practice (Msc or Degree)
  • Post graduate qualification in leadership and management (or considerable experience in this area)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant experience of working with young people with mental health needs. Or clear evidence of substantial experience of working with individuals in crisis and skills that are transferable to both the community/in-patient. Highly developed clinical reasoning skills.
  • Sound knowledge of the national agenda for mental health.
  • Sound knowledge of clinical/risk assessment and understanding of Information Governance principles.
Desirable criteria
  • Mentorship Module
  • ENB998 / FliPS or equivalent
  • Experience of working within a Hospital environment
  • Working knowledge of Assessment tools
  • Working with people who have suicidal ideation
  • Working within a multi-disciplinary approach to healthcare
  • Experience of teaching in a formal or informal setting
  • Political astuteness
  • Distributed leadership modelling

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent assessment and risk management skills
  • Sound knowledge of the national agenda for mental health
  • Knowledge of current agenda and guidance towards Mental Health forward view
  • Demonstrating supportive and sensitive communication to patients, carers and staff, whilst demonstrating an understanding of the nature and effects of some information
  • Highly motivated & able to engage with service users, carers and key stakeholders to improve outcomes.
  • Highly developed clinical reasoning skills
  • Ability to engage with patients experiencing High Expressed Emotion
  • Experience of working with patients who have self harming behaviours
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Act and MCA (2005)
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Basic IT skills
