Job overview

You will need to have excellent communication skills and enjoy working as part of a large multi-disciplinary team. You will also need to be friendly, approachable, adaptable, flexible, willing to learn new skills and be committed to continuous professional development.

The department actively promotes development, education and training. To apply you will need to have good GCSEs or equivalent and a NVQ level 2 in pharmacy services or working towards completing the NVQ level 2 qualification.

This is a full time post and the post holder will be required to participate in the weekend & bank holiday rota. 

Main duties of the job

To be part of a team of specialist pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in providing a comprehensive, efficient and safe pharmacy service to patients within the Trust.

Duties include helping to manage stock, providing a ward top-up service (including replenishment of Omnicell cabinets), labelling and dispensing, cleaning and tidying

Completes HEE Medicines Optimisation course modules for checking Patients’ Own Drugs and transcribing medicines for inpatient use.

To assist in the dispensing, preparation and delivery of medications and parenteral nutrition for inpatients and outpatients with intestinal failure.

Assists in dispensing medicines to inpatients and outpatients, wards and departments and helps maintain workflow (including assisting in the use of the robot where applicable)

Be compliant with the requirements of Good Distribution Practice (GDP), MHRA, Whole Seller Dealer License (WDL)

Deals with non-clinical enquiries from patients and healthcare staff and refers clinical enquires or complex issues to appropriate members of staff as required

Oversees good housekeeping in appropriate rotations by ensuring benches and baskets are kept clear of drugs no longer required.

Checks expiry dates and rotates stock

Unpack deliveries and puts drugs away, dealing promptly with any discrepancies according to SOPs.
