We are the only NHS provider trust to serve the whole of London and the nine million people who live in, work in or visit the city.  We cover an area of 620sq miles and have more than 8,000 people who work or volunteer for us – rising to 10,000 when including bank staff and students.

We answer around two million 999 calls a year and our crews attend more than 3000 emergencies a day. Our 24-hour 111 integrated urgent care services London answer around two million calls a year.

We play a leading role in integrating access to emergency and urgent care in the capital and are striving to ensure patients receive the right response, in the right place, at the right time

Our main role is to respond to emergency 999 calls, providing medical care to patients across the capital, 24-hours a day, 365 days a year. Other services we offer include providing pre-arranged patient transport and finding hospital beds. Working with the police and the fire service, we are prepared for dealing with large-scale or major incidents in the capital.

 

 

Job overview

We are looking for an experienced track record proven healthcare leader ready to shape the future of urgent and emergency care services? This is a post suitable for a dynamic and visionary General Manager to lead the Clinical Assessment Service (CAS) within our Integrated Urgent Care (IUC). 

This is a pivotal senior leadership position, responsible for the strategic development and operational delivery of our innovative Emergency and Urgent Clinical Assessment Services. You will play a key role in enhancing clinical quality, driving patient safety initiatives, and developing cutting-edge models of care such as ‘Hear and Treat’ and ‘Consult and Complete’.

Working closely with senior managers across Integrated Patient Care Directorate  and key internal stakeholders, including the Clinical Directorate and Governance teams, you’ll champion service transformation while maintaining excellence in clinical triage and integrated urgent care delivery. You will also lead and support a high-performing team of Senior Clinical Navigators and play a vital role in system-wide collaboration with other care providers to ensure consistent, patient-centred care.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Strategic leadership of the CAS business and development strategy

  • Enhancing service performance and clinical outcomes across urgent care pathways

  • Developing effective partnerships with Primary, Acute and community providers

  • Managing a budget and delivering value through innovatio

Main duties of the job

The General Manager CAS is a senior leadership role within the Integrated Urgent Care (IUC) being accountable for leading, developing and delivering the Clinical Assessment Service Business and Development Strategy; managing clinical quality, innovation and patient safety initiatives for incoming call demand delivered directly through the Emergency & Urgent Clinical Assessment Services and staff by:

 

·         Establishing and maintaining the framework for clinically safe triage within IUC; developing and implementing plans for improving service delivery within IUC

·         Leading and developing new Emergency and Urgent Care services throughout IUC;

·         Developing and leading the planning and delivery of future models of service delivery based on national best practice and collaborating with IUC’ senior managers and key internal LAS stakeholders – notably the Clinical Directorate and Corporate Governance and Risk Leads;

·         Developing relationships and collaborating with other Emergency and Urgent Care providers, Primary and Acute Trusts for service delivery, capacity planning and service development, sharing and developing current best practices;

Essential criteria
  • Professional clinical registration (e.g. NMC, HCPC, GMC) – desirable but not always essential, depending on role emphasis.
  • Substantial senior management experience in urgent care, emergency services, or a similarly complex healthcare setting.
  • Proven Experience in Leading and developing strategic healthcare services
  • Proven Experience in Performance and quality improvement across multidisciplinary teams
  • Proven Experience in Managing large operational teams in a 24/7 healthcare environment
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills – with internal teams, external providers, and public stakeholders
Desirable criteria
  • Involvement in national-level urgent care initiatives or service pilots.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Experience working at regional/system leadership level.
