Job overview

The breast service team see over 8000 new patients, and treat over 450 new cancers a year. We work closely with the North London Breast Screening Unit and the Imperial Plastic Surgery Department to deliver all aspects of breast care for the population of North West London.

We currently run our breast service from the North West London Breast Centre on the Northwick Park Hospital site, with further clinics at Ealing Hospital. All our surgery is performed at Northwick Park Hospital.

The team offer all kinds of oncoplastic and reconstructive surgery except for free flaps, which take place at Charing Cross Hospital in partnership with the Plastics team there.

The unit is a national leader in offering daycase surgery, and for their MRI and Vacuum-assisted biopsy work.

The team are made up of a wide range of enthusiastic, dynamic, flexible and committed healthcare professionals who share the same philosophy of care. Similar character traits are sought in a new colleague.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work in both outpatient and operating theatre settings, supporting the department to deliver the highest quality of care.

Please note that the appointment is to the Trust, and not to specific hospitals, so cross-site working will be inevitable.

All doctors, will be expected to be involved in implementing the Trust’s Clinical Governance programme. This includes active participation in clinical audit, clinical guidelines/pathways, professional development, appraisal and risk management. Prior or ongoing experience with this is desirable.

The job plan will be agreed with the successful applicant, to meet the needs of the department, but will consist of regular one stop and follow up clinics, as well as theatre lists. Mastalgia clinics may also become part of the role.

There will be no on call commitment.
