Job overview

This Advanced Specialist Neonatal/Paediatric Dietitian post is an exciting opportunity for an experienced dietitian to work in the specialist area of neonatal and paediatric dietetics. This is a fixed term opportunity for either 0.6 or 0.8 WTE depending on the preference of the applicant, covering a secondment until the 31/08/2027.

Main duties of the job

The role with involve leading the dietetic service provision to the level 2 neonatal unit, working alongside another dietitian.  

The dietetic caseload includes regular attendance at the ward rounds on the neonatal unit, and at the weekly multidisciplinary neonatal neurodevelopmental clinic. There is a strong focus on working with other members of the neonatal MDT, including providing support to the neonatal outreach nurse team.

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent postgraduate qualification
  • Current HCPC registration
Desirable criteria
  • Member of BDA paediatric group and neonatal subgroup
  • Relevant postgraduate clinical qualification

Knowledge and experience

Essential criteria
  • Advanced knowledge within the specialist area of paediatric dietetics
  • Extensive clinical experience of working within a range of paediatric patients
  • Sound knowledge of neonatal dietetics with completion of relevant training in the area
  • Significant experience of working as an intergral member of an MDT and interagency working
  • Evidence of CPD
  • Evidence of contributing to service development
  • Knowledge and application of counselling skills/motivational interviewing/behavioural change
  • Previous experience of conducting audits and/or research
  • Experience/awareness of working within a diverse, multi-cultural population
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience working in neonatal dietetics at a band 6 or band 7 level
