Job overview
The post of Senior Specialist Pharmacist for Cancer and Haematology is a vital role in the safe, effective, and evidence-based use of medicines in cancer and haematology. The post holder also is an integral part of the multidisciplinary cancer and haematology team, supporting patients throughout their cancer treatment journey. The post holder works closely with haematology and cancer clinicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals to provide clinical chemotherapy governance in the Trust.
Main duties of the job
- Be the nominated lead pharmacist for the Trust’s Clinical Chemotherapy Services to provide professional leadership, development, supervision and management of Pharmacy Clinical Chemotherapy, Haematology & Cancer Services
- Participate in the provision of a safe and effective specialist clinical pharmacy service to designated clinical areas in particular specialist haematology and cancer chemotherapy services for adults and paediatric.
- Lead the education and training of pharmacy and other healthcare professionals in all aspects of chemotherapy
- Liaise with all relevant local networks and national working groups particularly London wide network with respect to local and national audits and collaborative work
- Be the Lead Trainer for Intrathecal Chemotherapy
- Be a key member of the senior pharmacy management team supporting the Medicines Management Strategy and the management of the pharmacy department
- To support the trust to comply with relevant regulations, local and national policies and guidelines

- Extensive evidence of specialist knowledge on cancer chemotherapy, haematology.
- Extensive experience in cancer chemotherapy and haematology.
- Provide advanced to mastery competency level using relevant professional framework
- Demonstrate working knowledge of NHS organisation, aseptic services and service and staff management
Desirable criteria
- Extensive experience in management of electronic prescribing
- Demonstrate financial management particularly on cancer drugs
- Experience in conducting external inspection
- Evidence in participation or conducting clinical trial research and development
Skills and Abilities
Essential criteria
- Demonstrable good understanding on leadership and management skills
- Evidence in excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to liaise, pursue and influence the multi-disciplinary team and senior managers and other external stakeholders
- Evidence of ability to identify and manage risks particularly clinical and service risks
- Demonstrate ability to actively seeks to improve services to enhance quality of patient care

- Excellent in the use spreadsheets to capture, manipulate and analyse data, searches for evidence-based practice
