Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Resuscitation Service for a full-time band 6 Resuscitation Officer based at London North West
University Healthcare NHS Trust. (Northwick Park, Ealing, and Central Middlesex Hospitals)
The successful applicant will be either a NMC registered nurse or HCPC registered operating department/ paramedic, with appropriate post registration experience.
Experience in an acute or critical care environment is essential as well as demonstrable experience in either adult or paediatric resuscitation. A
substantial proportion of the resuscitation officer role will be delivery of life support training sessions to all grades of trust staff, and you will,
therefore, need to have proven teaching/assessing skills and must hold either an adult or paediatric advanced or immediate life support provider
certificate or ideally progressed to an instructor candidate.
As well as providing resuscitation training sessions, the post-holder will be expected – when possible – to attend adult and paediatric cardiac and
other emergency arrest calls as a specialist member of the resuscitation team.
This is a developmental post and consideration will be given to candidates who are not ILS/PILS or ALS/EPALS instructors but would be expected
to achieve ILS/PILS instructor within twelve months and ALS/EPALS within 24 months.
The post-holder is expected to work cross site within the Trust.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
(Under the guidance of the Lead Resuscitation Officer / Resuscitation Service Manager and in conjunction with all members of the resuscitation
service)
Education and Training
1. To assist in ensuring that all members of the cardiac arrest team and all necessary holders of the resuscitation pagers are trained and
competent in the current resuscitation protocols, including the operation of relevant equipment.
2. To ensure that relevant medical and nursing staff in the Trust are competent in either basic and/or immediate life support as
appropriate.
3. To deliver basic life support training to Trust staff as part of their bi-annual mandatory training. The training will be delivered in a
classroom environment utilising workshop and skills training techniques.
4. To assist in the monitoring and evaluation of the current resuscitation training programme and assist in the adaptation and
implementation of changes to that programme to meet service needs.
5. To work in conjunction with the clinical training and education department in maintaining and updating of computerised, confidential
records of all medical, nursing, paramedical and ancillary staff trained in resuscitation skills and to provide regular audit reports on
these records produced on the Trusts

Education/ qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Foundation Degree in Healthcare
  • • Professional clinical qualification (e.g., RGN, NHSTA Paramedic, ODP)
  • • Resuscitation Council ILS/PILS Provider
  • • Willingness to undertake further training
Desirable criteria
  • • Teaching qualification e.g., Mentorship or Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector
  • • Evidence of further academic study
  • • Resuscitation Council ILS/PILS Instructor potential / Instructor candidate / Instructor

Knowledge and experience

Essential criteria
  • • 3 years minimum direct care experience in a clinical environment
  • • Previous experience of teaching clinical skills to healthcare professionals including students
  • • A good knowledge of the current Resuscitation Council UK guidelines
Desirable criteria
  • • Previous experience of teaching Resuscitation skills
  • • Experience in delivering simulation training
  • • Experience of working with acutely unwell adults/children
