Job overview

The lead practitioner for urgent care shall provide professional leadership to the nursing and allied healthcare professional workforce across three sites- Northwick Park Hospital, Ealing Hospital and Central Middlesex Hospital. They will work closely with the departmental teams to ensure the delivery of high quality patient centred care. The lead practitioner shall act as a link between all urgent care centres, both emergency departments, the  wider division and organisation.

The lead practitioner will lead on the development of new services and patient care processes/pathways ensuring they match the needs of the patient and service and the wider local health population. The lead practitioner will support the wider division and triumvirate to ensure operational performance is maintained and to develop strategies to improve performance and quality of care delivered.

The lead practitioner will act as a role model and mentor to staff and will be pivotal in the ongoing development of advanced practice and the emergency nurse/care practitioner  service.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder will be a recognised expert in the field of emergency and urgent care and act as a resource to both medical, nursing and other associated health care professionals as well as to patients and relatives.
  •      To independently practice and lead a team using developed expert knowledge, diagnostic and clinical skills to manage patients presenting with emergency and urgent care needs.
  • Provide expert care and operational leadership ensuring high standards of practice and quality of care to patients.
  • Line manage a team of emergency nurse/care practitioners/advanced clinical practitioners including supervision, recruitment, appraisals, sickness management, disciplinary, grievance and performance monitoring.
  • Ensure the delivery of safe and effective services that are responsive to the changing needs of the local population and sustainable over time.
  • Facilitate stakeholder engagement to negotiate, influence and develop effective partnerships to support transformation of clinical pathways.
  • Accountable for leading various change management projects and programmes in line with service wide improvement and transformation.

  • First Level Registered Nurse/First level Health Care Registered Paramedic
  • Masters Degree/Advanced Nurse/Clinical Practitioner qualification or working towards.
