Job overview
We are looking to appoint 1.00 WTE a motivated and enthusiastic Trust Junior Doctor (equivalent to FY2 level) for the dynamic and forward thinking department of Urology. The department provides all types of Urology treatment including the treatment of urological cancers, prostate disease, stones and continence.
As part of the role you will provide support to the in-patients wards, out-patients as well as have the opportunity to observe surgical cases in main theatres and day surgery.
You will be required to work a regular shift pattern including nights with an average of 40 hours per week.
The department is committed to excellence in teaching and training for junior doctors and previous post holders have gone on to achieve a national training number in Urology.
Main duties of the job
JOB SUMMARY
This post is central to delivering effective patient care at Northwest London Hospitals by providing a full emergency and elective service for urology patients. The post will be primarily based at Northwick Park Hospital but may be asked to attend Central Middlesex Hospital if required. The post will be involved in all aspects of diagnosis and treatment of urology patients. They will be expected to manage the daily list of urology inpatients, attend outpatient clinics and assist in operative theatre sessions including laparoscopic prostate and pelvic surgery, and a full range of upper tract
laparoscopic surgery. The successful candidate will have past experience and a continuing interest in Urology.
The post holder would be on the Urology on call rota, proposed 1 in 6

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
DUTIES OF POST
- Participate with colleagues in the continuous provision of Urology services provided by the Trust.
- Participate fully with the multidisciplinary team in the care of Urology inpatients and outpatients.
- To cooperate in the departments audit and research programme.
- To undertake regular weekly ward rounds for inpatients as part of the
consultant on call team - To be expected to participate in the assessment of emergency patients in the accident and emergency department
- To be expected to take part in operative theatre sessions and outpatient clinics.
- To be expected to supervise and teach junior medical staff and students.
- Be expected to adhere to the Trusts' Infection Prevention and Control Policies and make every effort to maintain high standards of infection control at all times thereby reducing the burden of all Healthcare Associated Infections
including MRSA. In particular all staff have the following key responsibilities: - Staff must observe stringent hand hygiene. Alcohol rub should be used on entry to and exit from all clinical areas. Hands should be washed before
and after patient contact in all patients with diarrhoea. Alcohol hand-run before and after patients contact may be used instead of hand washing in some clinical situations. - Staff members have a duty to attend infection control training provided for them by the Trust as set in the infection control policy.
- Staff members who develop an infection that may be transmissible to
patients have a duty to contact Occupational Health.
