Job overview

Maternity Triage Band 6 Senior Midwives

Maternity Triage have an exciting opportunity for Senior Band 6 Midwives who thrive on fast paced, mixed risk with excellent organisational and communication skills our team.

Kingston Maternity is a popular service with approximately 5000 births per annum. The NHS Maternity Services Survey 2023 rated Kingston in the top 3 performing maternity services within London.  Leadership is strong and well respected and there is a culture of learning and a desire to improve the service.

Kingston is proud of its strong multi-disciplinary (MDT) culture. We provide a well evaluated, in-house MDT programme and staff can attend external study days or enrol for academic modules at our local higher education institutes.

Kingston Maternity Triage began the implementation of BSOTS, a systematic process for effective triaging in 2020. The Maternity Helpline has successfully been in use since 2022, with a designated midwife answering calls on day shifts, run by the Triage core team of midwives. This year we have built a new Maternity Triage in line with the BSOTS/RCOG guidelines for maternity triaging, and therefore need to expand our core team. The core team for Triage will also cover the Maternity helpline and the Day Assessment Unit during the month. This provides a variety to the role, whilst remaining on the frontline.

Main duties of the job

Some of the main duties of the job are to provide women and babies with high quality, safe midwifery care. The care will be evidence based and holistic. In the absence of a Band 7 Team Leader, lead the team and manage the workload in the unit.

All candidates will need to demonstrate sound leadership and excellent communication skills, act as a role model to colleagues, practice a culture of safety through excellent cross boundary respect and working conditions, provide clinical support for Birth Centre, work closely with all Team Leaders, Delivery suite Co-ordinators and Senior Midwives.

Please be aware that this post requires you to work a mixture of day and night shifts, weekends, and bank holidays.
